'Christmas Story' Blu-ray Double Dip Due In November[teaser]Warner has announced a November Blu-ray release for 'A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition.'[/teaser] A new perennial classic (the film routinely shows for 24 hours straight every holiday on TBS), 'A Christmas Story' was first issued on Blu-ray and HD DVD back in late 2006 as a relatively bare bones edition. Reaction to the release was generally mixed, however, with most fans and critics giving the disc's video, audio, and supplements average marks. (Our own Peter Bracke gave the disc an overall grade of only three stars out of five -- read the full review here.) Hoping the second time's the charm, Warner has now confirmed that it will bring 'A Christmas Story' back to Blu-ray on November 4, in a new 'Ultimate Collector's Edition' featuring all-new deluxe packaging and other surprises. The full supplements have yet to be revealed, but among the new goodies are a "Holiday Starter Kit" set to include cookie cutters, a holiday cookbook, and a chef's apron. Warner hasn't revealed tech specs, or whether the film's video and audio have been newly remastered. More details should be coming in soon. In the meantime, you'll find preliminary specs for 'A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under November 4.Posted Mon Jul 7, 2008 at 08:00 AM PDT by: -
Producer: Fox Plotting to Bring 'X-Files' Movies to Blu-ray[teaser]The truth is finally out: Fox is planning to bring the 'X-Files' movies to Blu-ray, the films' producer announced this week via his official blog. [/teaser] As first revealed on www.xfiles.com, producer Frank Spotnitz surprised devotees with a posting to his blog revealing tantalizing details of first-ever Blu-ray and standard DVD re-issue versions of the first big-screen 'X-Files' film. "We are working on packing the [re-issued] DVD and Blu-Ray DVD releases with as many extras as they will fit, including video and audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, bloopers, trailers, a new documentary, and several other cool surprises," said Spotnitz. No planned release window was provided, but Spotnitz further hinted that plans are also underway to bring the upcoming 'X-Files' theatrical sequel 'I Want to Believe' to Blu-ray and DVD as well, the concurrent release of 'Fight the Future' appears likely. Though the news is certainly music to 'X-Files' fans' ears, those hoping to see a Blu-ray release of the original television series will remain disappointed -- Spotnitz says there are currently "no plans" to bring any seasons of the show to high-def. At press time, Fox had neither confirmed nor denied plans for any 'X-Files' releases on Blu-ray, but as always we'll keep you updated as any official news comes in. In the meantime, we've added listings for 'X-Files: Fight the Future' and 'X-Files: I Want to Believe' to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule.Posted Mon Jul 7, 2008 at 06:00 AM PDT by: -
