Koch to Scare Up Classic 'Black Christmas' on Blu-ray[teaser]Just in time for the holidays, Koch Releasing has announced it is bringing the 1974 horror classic 'Black Christmas' to Blu-ray in early November.[/teaser] Not to be confused with the dreadful 2006 remake, the original Bob Clark-directed 'Black Christmas' is often regarded as the "lost" horror epic, predating the slasher craze of the late '70s with its pioneering mix of atmosphere and knife-wielding chills. Previously released in a myriad of standard DVD editions, Koch will give 'Black Christmas' its first-ever high-def release on November 11. Rumor Patrol: Universal Prepping 'Wanted' Blu-ray for December[teaser]Universal has yet to announce it, but early word is coming from retailers that the studio is planning an early-December bow for the hit action-thriller 'Wanted.'[/teaser] Starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and based on a smash cult graphic novel of the same name, 'Wanted' has grossed over $100 million (and counting) at the domestic box office. At press time, Universal had yet to confirm its video plans for 'Wanted,' though a December 2 date has begun to circulate to retailers for the Blu-ray, arriving day-and-date with the standard DVD. Again, Universal has yet to make the official announcement, so this information is still safely in the rumor department. We'll keep you posted. Paramount Announces 2-Disc 'Iron Man' Blu-ray[teaser]Confirming the rumors, Paramount has officially announced 'Iron Man' for Blu-ray release this September, as a two-disc special edition with hours of HD bonus features. [/teaser] Ending weeks of speculation, Paramount has finally confirmed a September 30 Blu-ray touchdown for the Robert Downey Jr. blockbuster, which grossed over $300 million at the domestic box office this summer. Due day-and-date with the standard DVD, the Blu-ray will come as a two-disc set with extensive bonus features and BD-Live content. Tech specs for the main feature include a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras will be consistent between the Blu-ray and the DVD (with the Blu-ray content in full 1080 HD). Disc one will include the six-part documentary "Hall of Armor: The Invincible Iron Man" ("Origins," "Friends & Foes," "The Definitive Iron Man," "Demon in a Bottle," "Extremis and Beyond," "Ultimate Iron Man"), plus deleted and extended scenes. Disc two includes an additional seven-part documentary "I Am Iron Man" ("The Journey Begins," "The Suit that makes the Iron Man," "The Walk of Destruction," "Grounded In Reality," "Beneath the Armor," "It's All in the Details," "A Good Story, Well Told"), the "Wired: The Visual Effects of Iron Man" featurette, a Robert Downey Jr. screen test, "The Actor's Process" rehearsal footage, a short film by The Onion ("Wildly Popular Iron Man Trailer to be Adapted into Full Length Film"), still galleries, and the original theatrical trailer. Fox Confirms 'Daredevil' Blu-ray Specs, Director's Cut[teaser]Confirming earlier retailer reports, Fox has unveiled full specs for the September Blu-ray release of 'Daredevil,' which will come to high-def in a Director's Cut version with hours of bonus features.[/teaser] As previously reported, the studio made an early alert to retailers last month for a September 30 Blu-ray release of the Ben Affleck starrer, but stopped short of issuing a media announcement or revealing additional specs. Now the press details are in, with 'Daredevil' set to hit Blu-ray in its Director's Cut form with over 30 minutes of additional footage. DreamWorks Prepping September Blu-ray Bow for 'Love Guru'[teaser]The year's most notorious flop is headed to high-def, with retailers reporting that DreamWorks is planning a September Blu-ray debut for 'The Love Guru.'[/teaser] The latest comedy from Mike Myers, 'The Love Guru' suffered blistering reviews and disastrous box office, with the film grossing barely $30 million domestically during its brief theatrical run. Hoping to give the much-derided new age spoof a second life on video, DreamWorks has now reportedly set a retail date of September 16 for the Blu-ray, day-and-date with the standard DVD. 'Awake' Coming to Blu-ray this November[teaser]The Weinstein Co. has announced plans to bring the medical thriller 'Awake' to Blu-ray in mid-November.[/teaser] Starring Hayden Christensen, Jessica Alba, and Oscar nominee Terence Howard, 'Awake' grossed over $30 million at the domestic box office last Winter. The Weinstein Co. will debut the Blu-ray on November 18 (a standard DVD edition was released earlier this year). Early tech specs include 1080p/VC-1 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Fox Prepares 'The Happening' For Blu-ray[teaser]In an early warning to retailers, Fox says it is planning to bring the end-of-the-world chiller 'The Happening' to Blu-ray in early October.[/teaser] M. Night Shyamalan's first R-rated, out-and-out horror film, 'The Happening' received mixed reviews and was a moderate hit at the box office earlier this summer, grossing a little over $60 million domestically. Fox has set an October 7 Blu-ray release date for the Mark Wahlberg-starrer (day-and-date with the standard DVD). Tech specs are Fox's standard BD-50 dual-layer presentation, with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and audio in ENglish DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround, with additional English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround (640kbps) and subtitle options. Weinstein Details '1408' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]The Weinstein Co. has unveiled final specs for its debut Blu-ray release '1408,' which will hit stores this September with Dolby TrueHD audio and hours of bonus material.[/teaser] As previously reported, '1408' will mark the Weinstein's first Blu-ray release of a theatrical title when it hits stores September 16 (along with another recent Stephen King adaptation, 'The Mist'). 'Beetlejuice' Blu-ray Gets New Date, Exclusives[teaser]Warner has unveiled a new date and specs for 'Beetlejuice,' which will now hit Blu-ray in early October and include Dolby TrueHD audio and exclusive extras.[/teaser] As previously reported, Warner first announced a September 16 Blu-ray release for the Tim Burton classic, timed to coincide with a new 20th Anniversary DVD re-issue. High-def fans will now have to wait an extra three weeks, however, with Warner pushing the Blu-ray back to October 7 (the DVD remains as scheduled.) Updated specs for the Blu-ray will see a BD-25 single-layer presentation with 1080p/VC-1 video (1.85:1) and a first-ever Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround remix. Previously announced extras include three bonus episodes of the 'Beetlejuice' cartoon series running over thirty minutes ("A-Ha," "Skeletons In The Closet," "Spooky Boo-tique"), plus the original theatrical trailer. 'Caligula' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]One of the most controversial films of all time is coming to high-def, with Image Entertainment announcing an early-November Blu-ray release for 'Caligula.'[/teaser] Produced by legendary Penthouse editor Bob Guccione, Jr. and documenting the decadence of the reign of Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Germanicus, 'Caligula' attracted an all-star cast (including Sir John Gielguld, Malcolm McDowell, and Dame Helen Mirren) but was later scorned by both its cast and critics when Guccione spliced in sexually explicit and violent footage to spice up the film.
