Eastwood, Schwarzenegger Lead Warner September Blu-ray Action Wave[teaser]Warner has announced a wave of five action titles due on Blu-ray in early September, including top hits from Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Steven Seagal.[/teaser] Due to hit stores on September 2, the five titles include Eastwood's 'The Gauntlet' and 'Every Which Way But Loose,' the Schwarzenegger opus 'Eraser,' Seagal in 'Under Siege 2: Dark Territory,' and the sci-fi virus thriller 'Outbreak. Warner has yet to announce any further specs on the wave, but if the studio's past Blu-ray strategy holds, expect the same extras as the standard DVD edition. Warner Unwraps 'Christmas Story' Blu-ray Specs, Packaging[teaser]Warner Home Video has revealed final specs and box art for its double dip of 'A Christmas Story,' which will hit Blu-ray this November with hours of bonus materials and deluxe holiday-themed packaging.[/teaser] As previously reported, Warner will re-issue the Bob Clark classic on November 4 as 'A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition,' hitting Blu-ray day-and-date with a new DVD special edition. Now the full details of the box set are in, and it looks to be the most full-fledged release yet of the perennial favorite. "Festively packaged" in a collectible retro holiday cookie tin, included are five collectible cookie cutters in iconic 'Christmas Story' shapes; a 48-page cook book filled with recipes inspired by the film; photos and quotes and a custom-designed chef's apron. (Exclusive to the Blu-ray box set is an additional Leg Lamp light stand.) Extras shared between the Blu-ray and DVD boast audio commentary with Peter Billingsley and Clark, original story readings by Jean Shepard (author and voice narrator of 'A Christmas Story'), the "Another Christmas Story" documentary, a pair of featurettes ( "Get a Leg Up," "A History of the Daisy Red Ryder"), "Triple Dog Dare" interactive trivia, a "Decoder Match Challenge" interactive game, additional "Hidden Presents" and the theatrical trailer. New Line Bringing 'Blow' to Blu-ray[teaser]New Line has announced plans to bring the drug drama 'Blow' to Blu-ray this September, featuring all-new exclusive content and Digital Copy.[/teaser] Chronicling the rise and fall of drug czar George Jung, the Johnny Depp-Penelope Cruz starrer will make its next-gen debut on September 23. Extras ported over from the previously, highly-acclaimed Infinifilm DVD edition include audio commentary with director Ted Demme and Jung, a subtitle fact track with branching video segments (featuring additional behind-the-scenes material), deleted scenes, additional behind-the-scenes and production diary featurettes, outtakes and theatrical trailers. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release is "Focus Points," a picture-in-picture commentary with real-life biographical material on Jung (Profile 1.1 required), and a Digital Copy of the film. Warner to Offer Discounted Blu-rays Beginning this Fall[teaser]Starting in September Warner Home Video will begin offering retailers a new series of multi-tier discounts on select Blu-ray catalog titles.[/teaser] According to Video Business, WHV will begin to sell retailers specific Blu-ray catalog releases for as low as $11 each (after rebate), allowing them to discount the titles for consumers at a few dollars off their current suggested list price. Warner has not issued a complete list of the titles to be made available for discounting, but some of the "deep" catalog offerings will include: 'The Shining,' 'A Clockwork Orange,' 'The Aviator,' 'The Road Warrior,' 'Enter the Dragon,' 'The Fugitive' and 'Swordfish.' Among more recent new releases to be offered at a slimmer discount are: '300,' 'Ocean's 13,' 'The Departed,' 'I Am Legend' and 'We Are Marshall.' The studio has not specified an exact date when the new retail pricing strategy will go into effect aside from the September window, but as always, we'll keep you posted on this story as it develops. First Look: 'Mist,' '1408' Blu-ray Box Art[teaser]With the launch of the their first Blu-ray titles only a month away, the Weinstein Co. has issued a first look at the cover art for 'The Mist' and '1408.'[/teaser] As first announced last month, Frank Darabont's 'The Mist' will mark the Weinsteins' first Blu-ray release of a theatrical title when it hits stores on August 5. The studio will then follow it up with another hit Stephen King adaptation '1408,' due a little over a month later on September 16. Tech specs see both 'The Mist' and '1408' receiving BD-50 dual-layer presentations (with 'The Mist' also a two-disc set), with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras will mirror the previous DVD editions, with both films presented in unrated versions and brimming with extras including audio commentary, featurettes, deleted scenes, and more. Finally, the Weinstein Co. had revealed the final high-res box art for both releases. BCI to Launch 'Marine Aquarium' Franchise on Blu-ray this September[teaser]Promising to turn your HDTV into a vibrant underwater world, BCI has announced a September Blu-ray launch for the popular 'Marine Aquarium' series.[/teaser] Having sold over one million copies on video, BCI will debut 'Marine Aquarium' on high-def September 2. David Mamet's 'Redbelt' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced a late-August Blu-ray release for the David Mamet action drama 'Redbelt.'[/teaser] Representing unusual thematic territory for writer-director Mamet, 'Redbelt' descends into the Los Angeles fighting subculture for a drama of loyalty and honor.
