Paramount Planning September Blu-ray Landing for 'Iron Man'?[teaser]Get ready to suit up, 'Iron Man' fans: the trades are saying that Paramount is planning to bring the comic book blockbuster to Blu-ray in late September.[/teaser] That's according to Home Media Magazine, which is reporting that the $310 million box office smash (the biggest hit of the year so far) will touchdown on Blu-ray September 30, day-and-date with the standard DVD. No further specs or supplement details are known thus far, but given 'Iron Man's big-ticket action sequences and CGI effects, it seems poised to be one of the season's biggest next-gen hits. At press time, official word from a Paramount spokesperson is that "...the studio has not made any official announcements regarding a release date for Iron-Man on Blu-ray," though we're told the studio's official release plans are due shortly. Needless to say, stay tuned. Lionsgate Sets 'Belly,' 'The Doors' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Lionsgate has unveiled final specs for its August wave of Blu-ray catalog releases, bringing 'The Doors' and 'Belly' to high-def with DTS-MA 7.1 audio and hours of bonus materials.[/teaser] As originally announced last month, Lionsgate will bring both Oliver Stone's controversial 'The Doors' and the urban crime thriller 'Belly' to Blu-ray on August 12, with each enjoying their first-ever next-gen release. The studio has now confirmed tech specs, with both receiving a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround soundtrack. Extras on 'The Doors' includes audio commentary with Stone, "The Road to Excess" documentary, the original production featurette, interviews with cast & crew, and 43 minutes of deleted scenes. 'Belly' features audio commentary with director Hype Williams, "Spoken Word" vignettes, deleted scenes and a music video. Suggested retail price has been set at $29.99 each. Sony Axes 'I Still Know' Blu-ray from 'Summer' Schedule[teaser]Sony no longer knows what you're doing on Blu-ray this summer after yanking the planned debut of the slasher sequel from its next-gen schedule.[/teaser] Originally announced for a July 22 Blu-ray bow, the Jennifer Love Hewitt scream-fest 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer' was to join the original 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' in making its high-def debut. We've now received confirmation from Sony that while the original 'Summer' remains on track for release, 'I Still Know' has been given the hook, with no new date pending. The studio gave no word on the reasons behind the change and didn't say if or when a new date might be announced. As always, we'll keep you posted. 'UFC: Ultimate Comebacks' Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]Mixed martial arts fans, mark your calendars: First Look is bringing the Ultimate Fighting Championship's 'Ultimate Comebacks' to Blu-ray this November.[/teaser] A compendium of highlights that originally aired on Spike TV, 'UFC: Ultimate Comebacks' features picks from some of the UFC's most bone-crunching matches, as well as now-famous duels between its biggest stars. Disney Unveils 'Nixon: Election Year Edition' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Walt Disney Studios has announced specs for 'Nixon: Election Year Edition,' which will hit Blu-ray in a newly-extended version along with a never-before seen documentary.[/teaser] As previously announced, Disney will bring Oliver Stone's controversial epic to high-def for the first time on August 19, day-and-date with a new special edition DVD re-issue. Confirmed supplements are toplined by "Beyond Nixon," a never-before-seen documentary by Sean Stone (Oliver's son) featuring insights from author Gore Vidal and interviews with Washington insiders, including White House counsel to President Nixon, John Dean and notable political columnist and author, Robert Novak. Other extras include two separate audio commentaries from director and screenwriter Oliver Stone, deleted scenes (introduced by Stone), a "Charlie Rose Show" interview with Stone, and the film's original theatrical trailer. Tech specs include an extended cut of the film (with 26 minutes of additional footage) spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc, presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround audio. MPI to Release 'Baraka' on Blu-ray this October[teaser]In an early alert to retailers, MPI says it is planning to release the 70mm spectacle 'Baraka' on Blu-ray this October.[/teaser] Less a linear narrative than a series of breathtaking images, the highly-acclaimed 'Baraka' weaves its visuals together in mosaic touches on spirituality, the environment, and the human condition. Previously released on standard DVD, MPI will give the film it's first-ever next-gen release on October 28. There are no tech specs or supplemental details as of yet, but as 'Baraka' was one of the few films in the '90s to be shot using the 70mm process, it bodes well for a terrific-looking Blu-ray. 'Speed Racer' Revs to Blu-ray with Videogame, Digital Copy[teaser]In a studio first, Warner will bundle the September Blu-ray release of 'Speed Racer' as a 3-disc set with an exclusive videogame and Digital Copy.[/teaser] Though taking a drubbing from critics and flopping spectacularly with a dismal worldwide gross of only $85 million (against a reported $200 million production and marketing budget), 'Speed Racer' seems poised to be as a high-def demo disc with its candy-colored visuals and elaborate CGI. Warner will give the Wachowski Brothers-helmed flick a Blu-ray push on September 16 (day-and-date with the standard DVD), releasing 'Speed Racer' as a deluxe three-disc set. Tech specs will see the main feature spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc, with 1080p/VC-1 video and a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround soundtrack. The feature disc will be joined by a pair of bonus standard DVD platters exclusive to the Blu-ray release. The first bonus disc will include the fully playable videogame "Speed Racer Crucible Challenge," with the second containing a Digital Copy of the film (SD only) for viewing on PCs and other portable video devices. Fox Announces 'Deception' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Fox Home Entertainment has issued specs for the September Blu-ray release of 'Deception,' which comes to high-def with multiple bonus features.[/teaser] Fox originally announced the Hugh Jackman-Michelle Williams starrer for a September 23 Blu-ray release just last week (due day-and-date with the standard DVD), but stopped short of issuing any tech specs or supplemental info. Final details have arrived, with the BD-50 dual-layer presentation featuring 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, a English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track, plus Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and subtitle options in English, French, Spanish and Cantonese. Universal Adds Exclusives, Unrated Cut to 'Sarah Marshall' Blu-ray[teaser]Universal has unveiled final specs for the September Blu-ray release of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' which will hit high-def in a new unrated cut with hours of exclusive content.[/teaser] As previously announced, Universal will debut the Judd Apatow-produced comedy on September 30, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Tech specs include the film's unrated and regular R-rated theatrical versions available via seamless branching, spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc in 1080p video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Now full specs are in, with the Blu-ray and DVD editions sharing a host of bonus features. Among the copious extras is audio commentary (on both the theatrical and unrated versions) with cast and crew, video diaries, additional behind-the-scenes footage, a karaoke feature (also on both the theatrical and extended versions), three montages ("Line-O-Rama," "Sex-O-Rama," "Drunk-O-Rama"0, a "We've Got Something to Do" music video, a gag reel and the original "Red Band" theatrical trailer. Anchor Bay to Box 'Halloween' for Blu-ray[teaser]In an early trade announcement, Anchor Bay says it is planning to issue a six-disc box set of 'Halloween' that will include a Blu-ray copy of the classic chiller.[/teaser] According to a new advert appearing in this week's trades, Anchor Bay will celebrate the 30th birthday of John Carpenter's seminal 1978 slasher film with the 'Halloween: 30th Anniversary Commemorative Edition,' due in stores sometime this October (exact street date TBA) Included in the six-disc set will be the same Blu-ray single-disc edition that Anchor Bay released on the format last year. Also included in the set are standard DVD editions of both the original 1978 and Extended TV Editions of 'Halloween,' plus the DiviMax releases of 'Halloween 4' and 'Halloween 5.' Though no additional Blu-ray content or other exclusives are planned for the release, the set will come housed in a collectible package that includes a miniature bust of Michael Myers.
