'Stone Temple Pilots: Alive in the Windy City' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The first ever concert authorized by the band for commercial video release will rock Blu-ray in a few weeks. [/teaser] Eagle Rock Entertainment has announced 'Stone Temple Pilots: Alive in the Windy City' for a high-definition release on September 28. Filmed in state-of-the-art high-definition, recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM Stereo, Stone Temple Pilots performed a high-octane show at the sold-out Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL. This March 2010 concert blended new songs from their self-titled sixth album with classic hits from the inception of their career. Vocalist Scott Weiland, bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz erupted with a stop-on-a-dime tight, blistering set that included “Interstate Love Song” “Plush” “Vasoline” “Creep” “Sex Type Thing” and “Big Empty.” The 18-song show is complemented with bonus exclusive band member interviews -- Total running time is 92 minutes. Stone Temple Pilots were conceived in 1992 San Diego, successfully melding alternative rock, hard rock, melodic pop, and garage rock into a swirl of post-punk attitude with a hint of glam. Their first two albums—Core and Purple—immediately established them as one of the more adventurous of the American guitar bands. The raw, sonic energy of their songs and live shows propelled two decades worth of success. Amidst numerous break-ups and the four musicians coming and going in different bands, STP has never had a personnel change. Alive In The Windy City documents the strength and live prowess of this 20-year heavy-hitting rock collective. There's no word on tech specs yet, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.98. 'Windjammer: The Voyage of Christian Radich' Blu-ray Announced[teaser]The 1958 film directed by Bill Colleran and Louis De Rochemont III is coming to Blu-ray in September. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Flicker Alley says 'Windjammer: The Voyage of Christian Radich' will hit Blu-ray on September 17. Embarking from Oslo, Norway, the ship sets out across the Atlantic with storm-tossed stops in Madeira, where New Year's festivities entice the young crewman to enjoy Portuguese musical celebrations and heart-racing rides in basket sleds down steep cobblestone streets. On to Willemstead, Curacao, the boys take part in Dutch festivities, with plenty of food and pretty girls. They catch a courtyard performance of Pablo Casals in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, they're greeted by native steel bands and Calypso singers. By the time they arrive in New York, the Cinemiracle cameras offer a kaleidoscopic treat of color and sound. An encounter with the U.S. Navy Task Force makes for a grand promenade of ships, ncluding a gigantic aircraft carrier. Underwater shots of frogmen and a submerged submarine are exciting, but when it emerges from the depths to reveal the Windjammer, Cinemiracle becomes the star of this breathtaking story. Morton Gould's top-notch score, and fine variety of music throughout the picture, sounds perfect in Cinemiracles 7-channel sound recording. Seen digitally, the picture hanse't looked and sounded as good since its original theatrical engagements over 50 years ago. Specs have yet to be revealed, but supplements will include New Documentary on the film's original production (56 min.), Mini documentary featuring before and after demos on the films remastering (14 mins.), The Windjammer Breakdown Reel (14 min.), The Christian Radich Today at the Aalbourg Denmark Tall Ships Festival 2010 (7 min.), Windjammer Trailer (3 mins.), and Special Photo Galleries.
