'Southland Tales' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]Sony has announced a November release for the controversial sci-fi fantasy 'Southland Tales.'[/teaser] Filmmaker Richard Kelly's sprawling follow-up to his cult classic 'Donnie Darko,' 'Southland Tales' failed to hit with critics or audiences, but will make its Blu-ray bow on November 18 (Sony previously released the film on DVD last year). Extras will include audio commentary by Kelly, the "USIDent TV: Surveying the Southland" featurette, a "Southland Tales: The Prequel Saga Graphic Novel" gallery, and the "This Is The Way The World Ends" animated short. The 145-minute feature will be spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Ritchie's 'Revolver' Loaded for Blu-ray[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced it is bringing the Guy Ritchie gambling thriller 'Revolver' to Blu-ray this November.[/teaser] The widely-panned film, which grossed less than $5 million domestically, will receive its belated Blu-ray debut on November 18 (Sony released the standard DVD last year.) Universal Announces 'Jarhead,' 'Action/Thriller' Bundle for Blu-ray[teaser]Universal has announced a late-November release for the war drama 'Jarhead' on Blu-ray, as well as a bundle featuring three of the studio's latest catalog releases.[/teaser] Originally released on HD DVD over a year ago, Universal will debut the Blu-ray version of the Jake Gyllenhaal-Peter Skaarsgard starrer on November 25. Tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video (codec TBA) and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Supplements announced thus far include a pair of audio commentaries with director Sam Mendes and screenwriter William S. Broyles, though not any of the documentary or other video-based materials that were featured on the previous HD DVD. We'll keep you updated on any future spec updates. Also due for release on November 25 is the 'Action/Thriller Giftset,' a three-pack bundle that includes 'Jarhead' plus the recently-announced 'The Kingdom (2007)' and '8 Mile.' Eagle Rock Announces 'Jethro Tull,' 'Legends' Montreux Blu-rays[teaser]A pair of new concert discs featuring music legends Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, and David Sanborn recorded at the Montreux Rock Festival are kicking off Eagle Rock's Fall Blu-ray line-up.[/teaser] Two titles are set to debut on September 30: 'Jethro Tull: Live at Montreux 2003' and 'Legends: Live at Montreux 1997,' the latter featuring all-star jams with such greats as Clapton, Sanborn, Joe Sample, and Marcus Miller. There are no tech specs yet, but judging by Eagle Rock's previous Montreux releases, expect 1080 video and some form of high-res audio. [/teaser] As previously reported, the famed supergroup will release their debut Blu-ray title 'The Police: Certifiable - Live in Buenos Aires.' Documenting a stop on their mega-grossing farewell tour, the Blu-ray will be made available exclusively through Best Buy beginning November 11 (day-and-date with the DVD version). Featuring the entire 109-minute concert on a BD-50 dual-layer disc, tech specs boast 1080p video and Dolby TrueHD audio in both 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Stereo. LG Details BD300 Blu-ray/Netflix Player[teaser]LG Electronics has released more information on its upcoming BD300 Blu-ray Player, which will be capable of streaming TV and movie programming to owners with Netflix subscriptions.[/teaser] In an announcement made yesterday, the company said the players will be available next month at retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City. The suggested retail price has been set at $399.95 Allan Jason, vice president of sales and marketing for Digital Media/New Products at LG called the new player "The ultimate convergence of home theater entertainment and functionality" Jason dubbed the BD300 "the next step in a truly personalized entertainment experience." As reported by The New York Times "Bits" Technology Blog the movies streamed via Netflix will not be available in High-Def, but this is one of the first players to allow instant streaming, providing the combination of top of the line picture quality, and the added convenience of Netflix's on demand video offerings. LG representatives have also pointed out the ability to update the player's operating system to add future features through software updates.
