Seth Rogen Shares Fun Facts About Pineapple Express for Film's 10th Anniversary[teaser]The stoner comedy is celebrating its 10th anniversary.[/teaser] David Gordon Green's Pineapple Express was first released in theaters ten years ago today, and to help mark the occasion, star and co-writer Seth Rogen has been sharing some fun facts from the shoot on his Twitter Feed. The movie stars James Franco as a weed dealer and Rogen as a process server. After witnessing a murder, the stoner pair try to escape from corrupt cops and hitmen out to get them. Danny McBride, Gary Cole, Rosie Perez, and Craig Robinson round out the cast. The film originally hit theaters on August 6, 2008 and comes from a script written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Highlights from Rogen's list of trivia include details surrounding the title's origin, various injuries sustained during the shoot, and even a cameo by Stormy Daniels. Here's a full rundown of fun facts compiled from Seth Rogen's Twitter: In #PineappleExpress, me and my co-writer Evan had to roll all the cross joints needed to film (about 100) ourselves because nobody else on the crew could roll them properly. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 The name #PineappleExpress was around for years before the movie. It’s a Hawaiian weather system that sometimes hits the Pacific Northwest, which is where we’re from. Evan heard the name and said “that would be a great name for a movie.” Years later we found a perfect fit. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 There was NO strain of weed called #PineappleExpress when we made the movie. We said “if one day, people are out there selling weed called Pineapple Express, it worked”. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 Throughout the fight scene in Red’s house in #PineappleExpress, I broke my finger and Danny McBride got his head cracked open when Franco hit him with the bong. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 The reason Saul wears a headband in #PineappleExpress is the result of another injury. There’s a shot (that’s in the movie) when we are running through the woods, Franco hits his head on a tree. He actually hit his head on a screw that was holding a pad in place and got stitches. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 In #PineappleExpress, Red refers to his ex wife having gotten out of jail recently. There’s a pic of Red and his ex wife, who was played by Stormy Daniels. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 We wrote #PineappleExpress express for me to play Saul and Franco to play Dale. James wanted to switch roles, and I didn’t care that much, so we did. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 The shots of the dick drawings on the principals desk in Superbad was actually filmed on the set of #PineappleExpress in the woods while we were shooting Dale and Saul destroying their cell phones. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 In #PineappleExpress, Red was originally supposed to die the first time he was shot when he was tied up in his apartment, but we thought Danny Mcbride was so funny that we just kept bringing him back to life. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 While we were filming the scene where Red is taped to the chair in #PineappleExpress, Danny had to actually be taped in the chair all day and we couldn’t let him out because it took too long to put him back. pic.twitter.com/vBmmcRTuiL — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 I did my 99% of my own stunts in #PineappleExpress, (which might explain all the injuries) including this one: pic.twitter.com/DrV9jF1wIS — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 In #PineappleExpress, originally, Red killed Matheson with a Ford Fiesta, but Ford didn’t want their car involved in a movie murder so we had to change it to a Daewoo Lanos, which is ultimately much funnier I think. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 Huey Lewis and the News recorded an original theme song for #PineappleExpress. We were inspired by our favorite 80s movies that had rock songs with their titles. Here he is performing it on Kimmel: https://t.co/nXVbuiW9z0 via @YouTube — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 We DID have a smoking billboard for #PineappleExpress that got shut down by the fire department because people keep thinking it was on fire. https://t.co/UslrDgNyuN — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 The song Paper Planes by MIA does not actually appear in the movie #PineappleExpress, just the trailer. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 Of all the weird references in #PineappleExpress, my favorite is to the fact that Matheson is wearing “British Knights”, because when I was a kid I wore the fuck out of my BK’s. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 In #PineappleExpress, Saul calls his shit weed “Snicklefritz” because it’s what our practical FX supervisor would call his second in command when he didn’t like what he was doing and we thought it was hilarious. — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 Kanye came to the premiere of #PineappleExpress. pic.twitter.com/VpOMXHoiJI — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 This image is not actually from #PineappleExpress, but is from a skit we shot for the Oscars that year, which was filmed by Spielberg’s DP, Janusz Kaminski. https://t.co/GSDH7QTGix — Seth Rogen (@Sethrogen) August 6, 2018 Source: Seth Rogen (Twitter)Posted Mon Aug 6, 2018 at 03:55 PM PDT by: -

Director Christopher McQuarrie Reveals the Truth Behind Justice League's Mustache-Gate[teaser]The full story behind one of Hollywood's most expensive mustaches has been revealed.[/teaser] When actor Henry Cavill decided to grow a mustache for his character in Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Fallout, few could have predicted the wide ranging ramifications. But when the facial hair conflicted with reshoots for Warner Brothers' Justice League, the infamous "Mustache-Gate" scandal was born. Essentially, production would not allow Cavill to shave his impressive stache while shooting remained active for Mission: Impossible. And since he had to reshoot several scenes as Superman for Justice League at the same time, Warner Bros. was put in a tricky situation -- one that resulted in some hilariously bad and quite costly CGI in order to digitally erase the actor's mustache. But now that Mission: Impossible - Fallout has hit theaters, director Christopher McQuarrie is clarifying his part in the Mustache-Gate fiasco. As reported by The Playlist and CBM, McQuarrie recently sat down for an episode of The Empire Film Podcast where he elaborated on the details surrounding the conflict. According to the director, when Justice League producer Charles Roven approached him about the mustache dilemma, McQuarrie tried to help Warner Bros. out the best he could without putting his own movie in jeopardy. He spoke to Mission: Impossible - Fallout producer Jake Myers about the issue and the team calculated that if Cavill were to shave his mustache to play Superman, it would cost their production about $3 million to digitally fill-in the actor's missing facial hair in order to match the rest of the footage already shot. With that in mind, McQuarrie proposed that Warner Bros. simply pay them the $3 million, and in turn they would allow Cavill to shave his mustache for the Justice League reshoots and then actually shut down production for Mission: Impossible until he grew it back. But while that seemed like a pretty solid compromise to avoid any laughable CGI in either film, when Paramount heard about the idea they quickly shot it down, forcing Warner Bros. to deal with Cavill's facial hair through some utterly ridiculous effects work -- proving that while Kryptonite might be deadly, Superman's greatest weakness is really just an unruly mustache. Here is the full quote: "When the question came – the reshoots for Justice League came out – [Charles] Roven called me, and he said, ‘We need your help and we need to shave Henry [Cavill]’s mustache. We need him to come back and we need to do these reshoots.’ And I said, ‘Look, Chuck, naturally I want to do everything I can to help you, but I also have to think about our production. Let me talk to everybody and figure out what the scheduling would be.’ And I went and spoke to Jake Myers, and the suggestion was made through channels that we shave the mustache and Henry could begin to grow the mustache back and that then there would be – they would give us the resources to digitally fill in Henry’s mustache. Because like it or not, a fake mustache in close-up on a 75mm lens is never going to look like anything but a fake mustache. So, we offered the following compromise: Jake Myers calculated the amount of money that it would take to replace the number of shots, and essentially what Jake was able to project was about a $3 million visual effects budget. So, I don’t know how much Henry was in Justice League, I’ve never seen the movie, but I can tell you how much it would’ve cost for Mission: Impossible to digitally add Henry Cavill’s mustache, and we said yes. We said, here’s what we’ll do: give us the $3 million and we’ll shut down, and that will give Henry Cavill the time to grow his mustache back, and we’ll just shut our movie down. …We said we’ll do this, at which point, somebody from Paramount Pictures said, ‘What is going on? What are you people even talking about?’ They’re like, ‘There’s no way we’re going to do that.’ We were just like, ‘Okay.’ That was the best plan that we could come up with." Disney Announces Cast for 'Star Wars: Episode IX'[teaser]Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will both make appearances in the final installment of the Skywalker story.[/teaser] Disney has revealed a full cast list for Star Wars: Episode IX. In addition, the studio has announced that filming will commence on August 1, 2018 at Pinewood Studios in London. The movie comes from director J.J. Abrams and is set to hit theaters in December, 2019. The film's returning cast will include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd, along with new additions Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. Meanwhile, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams will all be featured as well. Likewise, Carrie Fisher will also make an appearance in the film as Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. "We desperately loved Carrie Fisher," says Abrams. "Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie's legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII." The film is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a script written by Abrams and Chris Terrio. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan are all on board as producers. Finally, John Williams will once again return to compose the movie's score. Beyond Episode IX, Disney is also developing a new trilogy of Star Wars films with director Rian Johnson, and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are also working on new films for the franchise. Meanwhile, Jon Favreau has been tapped to executive produce and write a new live-action Star Wars show for Disney's upcoming streaming platform.
