'The Killing Fields: 30th Anniversary Edition' Blu-ray Announced[teaser]The three-time Oscar winner and Best Picture nominee will be getting the Blu-ray digibook treatment in January. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers will release 'The Killing Fields: 30th Anniversary Edition' starring Sam Waterston, Haing S. Ngor, and John Malkovich in a Blu-ray digibook on January 7. This emotional and brutally honest true story follows Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Sydney Schanberg (Waterston), who remains in Cambodia in 1975 after the government falls. He convinces his friend and translator Dith Pran (Ngor) to stay with him to report on the bloodbath perpetrated by one of the most brutal regimes of the 20th century and on the United States' role in precipitating the horror. The two continue to work until the Khmer Rouge, the terrorist government that killed nearly 3 million, arrests them. Schanberg is eventually released and returns to New York. Pran is sent for execution but barely manages a daring escape from the killing fields and from Cambodia. With the help of Schanberg, Pran emigrates to the U.S. and becomes a staff photographer for the New York Times. 'Pacific Rim' Splashes Down on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D![teaser]Guillermo del Toro's epic monster movie has been dated and detailed for both formats in October! [/teaser] As previously reported, Warner Brothers is preparing 'Pacific Rim' Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack and 'Pacific Rim - 3D' Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for a release sometime in the coming weeks, and now the date has been set for October 15. When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. The combo packs will feature 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtracks, and supplements will include: Audio Commentary by Guillermo del Toro; Prologue by Guillermo Del Toro; Five Focus Points; Deleted Scenes; and Blooper Reel. 'Before Midnight' Blu-ray Supplements Detailed[teaser]The bonus features for Richard Linklater's sequel to 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset' have now been detailed. [/teaser] As previously reported, Sony will be releasing 'Before Midnight' on Blu-ray on October 22. 18 years have passed since American Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Frenchwoman Céline (Julie Delpy) met on a trans-European train and fell in love while wandering the streets of Vienna. The latest film finds the pair living as a couple in Paris, proud parents to two young girls. However, their lives are far from perfect. Frustrated at her inability to match Jesse's professional success, Céline is considering a change in career. Jesse, meanwhile, is struggling to connect with his teenage son Hank (Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick), who is visiting from Chicago for the summer. Specs haven't been revealed yet, but supplements will include: Audio Commentary with Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and director Richard Linklater; Revisiting Jesse & Céline; and Q&A with Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater. The suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $35.99.
