'Many Wars Ago' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Francesco Rosi's 1970 war drama enlists Blu-ray's service in January. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, RaroVideo has just revealed 'Many Wars Ago' for Blu-ray on January 7. In Northern Italy, WWI has turned into a bloody stalemate. Bogged down in their trenches on a barren highland, the men of an Italian infantry division have been given one objective: retake a commanding height from the enemy. His dispirited troops must be prodded with ever harsher measures into storming the Austrian positions. As casualties mount, indignation spreads amongst the rank and file. Disturbed by the decisions of his superiors, lieutenant Sassu (Mark Frechette) is progressively led to question the purpose of the war and to reconsider where his real duties lie. The Blu-ray will feature a digitally restored in collaboration with the National Cinematheque and The Turin National Museum under the supervision of director Francesco Rosi and supplements will include: before and after restoration demonstration; Interview with director Francesco Rosi; new and improved subtitle translation; and fully illustrated booklet on the genesis and production of Many Wars Ago. Blu-ray Makes a 'Funny Face'[teaser]The 1957 classic starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire dances to Blu-ray in April. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers is working on 'Funny Face' for a Blu-ray release on April 8. This filmed version of the 1927 George Gershwin Broadway musical Funny Face utilizes the play's original star, Fred Astaire, and several of the original tunes, then goes merrily off on its own. Astaire is cast as as fashion photographer Dick Avery (a character based on Richard Avedon, the film's "visual consultant"), who is sent out by his female boss Maggie Prescott (Kay Thompson) to find a "new face". It doesn't take Dick long to discover Jo (Audrey Hepburn, who does her own singing), an owlish Greenwich Village bookstore clerk. Acting as Pygmalion to Jo's Galatea, Dick whisks the wide-eyed girl off to Paris and transforms her into the fashion world's hottest model. Along the way, he falls in love with Jo, and works overtime to wean her away from such phony-baloney intellectuals as Professor Emile Flostre (Michel Auclair). The Gershwin tunes include the title song, "S'wonderful", "How Long Has This Been Going On" and "He Loves and She Loves"; among the newer numbers is Kay Thompson's energetic opener "Think Pink". For years available only in washed-out, flat prints, Funny Face was eventually restored to its full Technicolor and VistaVision glory. Specs and supplements have yet to be revealed, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.98. You can find the latest specs for 'Funny Face' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under April 8.Posted Thu Dec 12, 2013 at 01:00 PM PST by:
