Warner Unveils 'Cool Hand Luke' Blu-ray Specs, Box Art[teaser]Warner has unveiled specs and box art for the September Blu-ray debut of the classic 'Cool Hand Luke.'[/teaser] As previously reported, 'Cool Hand Luke' will get the fully-remastered treatment from Warner on September 9, when the studio premieres the film on Blu-ray day-and-date with a new standard DVD re-issue. Extras include all-new audio commentary with Newman biographer Erik Lax, the documentary "A Natural-Born World-Shaker: Making Cool Hand Luke" and the original theatrical trailer. Tech specs feature 1080p video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio, plus standard Dolby dubs in French and Spanish. Lionsgate Prepping 'Universal Soldier,' 'Angel Heart' for Blu-ray[teaser]Lionsgate has included a new promotional insert with this month's Blu-ray debut of 'Rambo,' previewing a quartet of upcoming titles, including the first confirmation of still-unscheduled next-gen releases of 'Universal Solider' and 'Angel Heart.'[/teaser] Dropping on our doorstep this week was a copy of 'Rambo,' which included a color advertisement in the keepcase touting the upcoming release of four Blu-ray titles, including the recently-announced 'The Doors' and 'Belly.' Although no exact street dates were given, the ad also promised future debuts for 'Universal Soldier' and 'Angel Heart.' With both 'The Doors' and 'Belly' given August 12 dates, 'Angel Heart' and 'Soldier' appear posed for a late Summer or early Fall arrival. No additional specs are revealed in the promo, though it does promise upgraded video and audio. We'll definitely keep you posted as further word comes from the studio. 'Gangs of New York' Specs, Box Art Revealed[teaser]Final specs and box art are in for 'Gangs of New York,' which Disney will debut on Blu-ray this July with PCM audio and multiple bonus features.[/teaser] As we first reported earlier this year, 'Gangs of New York' hits Blu-ray on July 1 as one of Martin Scorsese's most eagerly-awaited crime dramas. Lionsgate Opening 'The Doors' on Blu-ray this August[teaser]Lionsgate plans to expand the consciousness of Blu-ray fans this August, with the next-gen bow of Oliver Stone's 'The Doors.'[/teaser] The studio has alerted retailers to an August 12 Blu-ray street date for the Oliver Stone biopic, which stars Val Kilmer in the chronicle of the short, fast life of The Doors' Jim Morrison. Though not a huge box office hit, the film has since gone on to attain cult status and remains one of Lionsgate's top DVD catalog sellers. There are no supplemental details as of yet, but early retail listings indicate 1080p video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround track. Fox Scares Up 'Shutter' Blu-ray This Summer[teaser]Fox has announced a July release of the horror remake 'Shutter,' which will come to high-def in a never-before-seen unrated version.[/teaser] Starring Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylor ('Transformers'), the PG-13-rated 'Shutter grossed $25 million at the domestic box office. Fox will debut the film July 15 on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Out-spooking the theatrical version with all-new footage and an alternate ending, the Unrated version of 'Shutter' will be presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track. Warner Sets August Bow for 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' Blu-ray[teaser]Warner is bringing the 'Terminator' spin-off TV series 'The Sarah Chronicles' to Blu-ray this August as a three-disc set packed with features.[/teaser] Continuing the adventures of John and Sarah Connor from the blockbuster 'Terminator' franchise, 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season' is set to hit Blu-ray on August 19, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Bonus features include audio commentaries on select episodes, the featurette "Creating the Chronicles," the "Terminated Scenes" compilation, a gag reel, cast auditions, a storyboard animatic, and an extended Director's Cut of the episode "The Demon Hand." Universal Sets Specs, Adds U-Control to 'Mummy Returns' Blu-ray[teaser]Universal has announced full specs for the Blu-ray release of 'The Mummy Returns ,' which the studio will launch this July with exclusive U-Control content.[/teaser] As we first reported last month, Universal announced their premiere line-up of Blu-ray releases for this Summer, jump-started by a July 22 bow for the blockbuster sequel 'The Mummy Returns.' The newly-unveiled tech specs boast a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p video (no codec specified) and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround audio. Extras will equal the previous HD DVD release, including audio commentary with director Stephen Sommers and co-producer Bob Ducsay, a quartet of featurettes ("Visual and Special Effects Formation," "An Army to Rule the World Part 2," "Spotlight and On Location of the Mummy," "Unraveling the Legacy of the Mummy"), deleted scenes, and an interview with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. 'Drillbit Taylor' Blu-ray Specs, Box Art In[teaser]Paramount has officially announced the July release of 'Drillbit Taylor,' which hits Blu-ray in an extended edition with a host of HD bonus features.[/teaser] As previously reported, Paramount had issued a July 29 Blu-ray street date to retailers for the Owen Wilson comedy (four weeks following the standard DVD), but stopped short of issuing any specs or supplement details.
