Fox Adds Director's Cut, Exclusives to 'Dungeon Siege' Blu-ray[teaser]Fox has officially announced 'In the Name of the King,' which will hit high-def with an exclusive-to-Blu-ray director's cut and additional bonus features.[/teaser] As previously reported, Fox first alerted retailers to a December 16 Blu-ray bow for 'In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale' (day-and-date with the standard DVD), but stopped short of issuing an official media announcement. Now final specs are in, which will see the studio present the Uwe Boll-directed adventure-fantasy in a Unrated cut exclusive to the Blu-ray release, featuring 35 minutes of never-before-seen footage. Also included is an audio commentary by Boll that won't be found on the standard DVD. Extras shared between both releases include a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, and theatrical trailers. Tech specs for the Blu-ray will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1Surorund sound. More 'Dragon Ball Z' Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]FUNimation has announced its next round of Dragon Ball Z, with a double-header of 'Return of the Cooler' and 'Cooler's Revenge' planned for Blu-ray this November.[/teaser] Like the company's previous Dragon Ball Z double-feature releases, 'Dragon Ball Z: Return of the Cooler/Cooler's Revenge' will present both full-length animes on a single BD-50 dual-layer disc. FUNimation has set a November 11 street date for 'Return of the Cooler/Cooler's Revenge.' There were no tech specs or supplemental details available for the release at press time, but we'll keep you posted. 'Kitaro' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]BCI has announced it is bringing the acclaimed 2007 anime 'Kitaro' to Blu-ray in mid-November..[/teaser] Widely-praised as the most visually-spectacular big-screen adaptation of Mizuki Shigeru's much-loved manga series, BCI will debut the feature-length 'Kitaro' on Blu-ray November 18, day-and-date with the standard DVD. BCI has yet to reveal tech specs for the release, but expect remastered 1080 video and some form of high-res audio. At press time, there were no announced supplements. Sony Confirms Date, Specs for 'Open Season 2' Blu-ray[teaser]Sony Pictures has officially announced the direct-to-video premiere film 'Open Season 2,' which will come to Blu-ray in early January.[/teaser] As originally reported, Sony had intended to debut 'Open Season 2' as a theatrical feature, but then leaked the news to the trades last week that it will now debut the sequel direct-to-video. Due on January 27, the Blu-ray will hit day-and-date with the standard DVD. A relatively bare bones release, shared extras include a pair of featurettes ("Going WILD! With the Voice Cast of Open Season 2," "How to Draw Your Favorite Characters: Boog, Elliot & Fifi") and three deleted scenes. Fox to 'Fight the Future' on Blu-ray this December[teaser]It will be a double dose of 'X-Files' on high-def this holiday, with Fox confirming that the release of 'Fight the Future' will coincide with the just-announced 'I Want to Believe' on Blu-ray in early December.[/teaser] As confirmed earlier today, Fox will release the latest X-Files feature, 'X-Files: I Want to Believe' on Blu-ray December 2. Fox has now announced they will also debut the first big-screen X-Files adventure, 'X-Files: Fight the Future,' on the same day. 'Kung Fu Panda' Gets Sequel, Sunday Street Date[teaser]In a first-of-its-kind marketing move, DreamWorks Animation is bundling the Blu-ray of 'Kung Fu Panda' with its direct-to-video sequel, and giving it a Sunday release date instead of the usual Tuesday.[/teaser] Unlike most studios which release video premiere sequels as stand-alone releases, DreamWorks will package 'Secrets of the Furious Five," a companion film to the $215 million-grossing 'Kung Fu Panda' with both the Blu-ray and DVD versions. 'Furious Five' will again feature the voices of 'Panda' stars Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman. Also unique to the video release of 'Panda' is DreamWorks confirming a Sunday, November 9 street date (day-and-date on Blu-ray and DVD), which bucks the industry norm of releasing new titles on a Tuesday.
