National Geographic to 'Journey to the Edge of the Universe' on Blu-ray[teaser]National Geographic has announced a late-March Blu-ray debut for the space exploration documentary 'Journey to the Edge of the Universe.'[/teaser] Building on images taken from the Hubble telescope, 'Journey to the Edge of the Universe' recreates the first accurate non-stop voyage from Earth to the edge of the Universe through the use of spectacular CGI technology, and explores the science and history behind the distant celestial bodies in the solar system. Distributed via Warner Home Video 'Journey to the Edge of the Universe' will debut on Blu-ray March 31, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Tech details for the high-def version include a BD-25 single-layer presentation, with 1080p/VC-1 video and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio and subtitles (in English, French and Spanish). There are currently no announced supplements, but we'll keep you posted if we receive any future spec updates. Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $28.95. Special Delivery - Netflix Update Arrives for Samsung Blu-ray Players[teaser]Samsung has released a firmware update that will allow Netflix customers to stream movies through their Blu-ray players.[/teaser] As previously reported, Samsung and Netflix settled on an arrangement similar to that announced by LG Electronics which will allow owners to take advantage of Netflix's "Watch Instantly" service at no additional cost. After installing the update to their Samsung BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 players, Netflix account holders can visit the website to add standard definition movies and TV episodes to their instant queues. Those selections will then be available for viewing on their TVs via their Samsung players. Warner Sets Date for Direct-to-Video 'Wonder Woman'[teaser]The world's greatest female superhero is coming to high-def, with Warner Premiere and DC Comics announcing an early-March Blu-ray arrival for its latest direct-to-video release, 'Wonder Woman.'[/teaser] Featuring the voices of Rosario Dawson, Keri Russell, and Virginia Madsen, this 2009 all-animated, video premiere film will arrive on Blu-ray March 3, day-and-date with the standard DVD. There are no tech or supplement specs as of yet, but Warner is billing the release as a special edition so we expect plenty of bonus features. Max Fleischer's 'Gulliver's Travels' Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]Koch Releasing has announced it will bring the 1939 animated favorite 'Gulliver's Travels' to Blu-ray in early March.[/teaser] Featuring the singing voices of Jessica Dragonette and Lanny Ross and directed by Max Fleischer, the time-honored Jonathan Swift classic will make the jump to high-def on March 10. Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Lionsgate has revealed final specs for 'W.,' which will come to Blu-ray next year with a presidential suite's worth of bonus materials.[/teaser] As previously reported, Lionsgate had alerted retailers to a February Blu-ray bow for Oliver Stone's controversial biopic of exiting president George W. 'Saw V' to Get Two-Disc Blu-ray with Exclusives[teaser]Lionsgate has unwrapped final specs for 'Saw V,' which will slash its way to Blu-ray with hours of blood-splattered bonus features and exclusive Director's Cut.[/teaser] As previously reported, Lionsgate had alerted retailers to a January 20 Blu-ray release for the latest in the Jigsaw Killer franchise, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Newly confirmed specs will see a two-disc set featuring the 96-minute unrated cut of the film spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround. 'Nights in Rodanthe' to Get February Blu-ray Release[teaser]New Line will bring the romantic drama 'Nights in Rodanthe' to Blu-ray this February.[/teaser] Reteaming 'Unfaithful' Oscar nominee Diane Lane and co-star Richard Gere, the adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel grossed nearly $40 million at the domestic box office this past Fall. New Line, via Warner Home Video, will release the film on Blu-ray February 10, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Supplements will include the "Richard Gere and Diane Lane Discuss the Nature of Love" featurette, deleted scenes, a Gavin Rossdale music video, and biographies on composer Emmylou Harris and Sparks. Warner Reveals 'Dark Knight' Blu-ray BD-Live Features[teaser]With 'The Dark Knight' only days away from Blu-ray release, Warner has revealed the final list of BD-Live features which are set to include the ability to record your own video commentary and other additional exclusives.[/teaser] Leading the just-confirmed roster of BD-Live functions is "My WB Commentary," which allows users with a webcam to record their own video commentary that can be shared online with others. The track will play as a picture-in-picture track while your friends watch the film. (Bonus View-compatible player required.) Other features include "My Community Screening," which facilitates real-time multiple viewing of the film via BD-Live. Users can chat during playback, connect to community showings our send out invitations for their own screenings. Additional web-driven features on 'The Dark Knight' include an online destination where you can shop the WB Store, download trailers of other Warner Blu-ray releases, create your own wishlist of upcoming WB Blu-ray titles, and even create a database listing for your current high-def library. Warner also says it is planning to host a "My Community Screening" with director Christopher Nolan where viewers can partake in a Q&A with the filmmaker. Fox Outlines 'Max Payne' Blu-ray Specs, Exclusives[teaser]Fox has confirmed final specs for 'Max Payne,' which will arrive on Blu-ray this January with hours of bonus features and exclusive content.[/teaser] As announced late last month, Fox will debut the film on Blu-ray January 20, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Final tech specs will see both the theatrical nand unrated cuts of the film (accessible via seamless branching) on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (2.40:1) and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround audio (48kHz/24-bit). Extras will include audio commentary (with director John Moore, production designer Daniel Dorrance, and visual effects supervisor Everett Burrell), the first of a two-part making-of featurette, and a "Michelle Payne" animated graphic novel.
