Weinstein Details 'Reader' Blu-ray Specs, Box Art[teaser]The Weinstein Co. has revealed final specs and box art for 'The Reader,' which arrives on Blu-ray in late-April with TrueHD audio and multiple bonus features.[/teaser] As previously reported, the Weinstein Co. has set an April 28 Blu-ray date for the acclaimed Holocaust-themed drama (which earned a Best Actress statuette for Kate Winslet), day-and-date with the standard DVD. Tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/VC-1 video (1.85:1) and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras will include a quintet of making-of featurettes, and a dozen deleted scenes. Finally, the Weinstein Co. has issued the final box art for 'The Reader': As previously announced, Lionsgate has set the suggested retail price at $39.99. Allegro to Debut 'Living Landscapes' Trio as Low-Priced Nature Blu-rays[teaser]Newcomer Allegro Entertainment has announced its first trio of Blu-ray releases, a budget line of titles in its 'Living Landscapes' nature series.[/teaser] Dubbed 'Earthscapes,' the three titles to receive their high-def premiere on April 14 are 'Bali,' 'Olympic Rainforest' and 'Wild Africa.' 'New in Town' Gets May Blu-ray Release[teaser]Lionsgate has announced a late-May Blu-ray release for the Renee Zellweger romance 'New in Town.'[/teaser] Co-starring Harry Connick Jr., the fish-out-of-water comedy grossed a fair $40 million at the domestic box office during its short theatrical run earlier this year. Lionsgate has set a May 26 Blu-ray release, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Tech specs will see 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track. Among the bonus features are a trio of featurettes ("Making New In Town in Winnipeg Canada," "The Folk Art of Scrapbooking,""Pudding's Delicious Role in New In Town") and deleted scenes. 'Children of the Corn' to Stalk Blu-ray this July[teaser]Stephen King's 'Children of the Corn' are ready to slice into high-def, with Anchor Bay announcing a late-July Blu-ray bow for the '80s slasher "classic."[/teaser] Produced on a shoestring in 1984, the minor box office hit defied critical carvings to go on to spawn over a half-dozen direct-to-video sequels (each one, it seemed, worse than the last). To honor the film's 25th anniversary -- and just in time to promote a new theatrical remake -- Anchor Bay will release 'Children of the Corn' on Blu-ray July 28. Newly remastered, tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.85:1) and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Among the newly-produced extras is audio commentary with director Fritz Kiersch, producer Terrence Kirby and actors John Franklin & Courtney Gains, an "It Was The Eighties!" interview with Linda Hamilton, a trio of featurettes ("Stephen King on a Shoestring," "Welcome to Gatlin: The Sights and Sounds of Children of the Corn," "Harvesting Horror: The Making of Children of the Corn"), a trivia track, still gallery, original storyboard and title sequence art, and the theatrical trailer. Neil Young's Blu-ray 'Archives' Get New Date[teaser]More details and a new street date have emerged for Neil Young's 'Archives Volume One,' with the man himself announcing an early-June Blu-ray release via his official website.[/teaser] As previously reported, the rock legend had announced ambitious plans last year to release his entire back catalog on Blu-ray in multiple, extensive special edition box sets. A tentative February 24 street date was originally announced for the Warner Music Group release, but never materialized. Now, Young has stated that the first installment in the landmark Blu-ray release, 'Neil Young: Archives Volume One (1963-1972)' is planned for a June 2 street date. Spanning ten discs, the set will boast no less than 128 tracks, among them 43 unreleased songs and 13 never-before-heard by the public. Also included are two complete live albums, "Live At The Fillmore East" and "Live At Massey Hall 1971." Video extras feature the full-length documentary "Journey Through the Past." Rounding out this impressive Blu-ray release is a 236-page hardcover book, plus lyrics written by Neil Young, newspaper articles, letters and a Young timeline. Eastwood's 'Gran Torino' Revs Up on Blu this June[teaser]Warner Home Video has announced an early-June Blu-ray release for the Clint Eastwood hit 'Gran Torino.'[/teaser] Though pundits had predicted Eastwood's other directorial effort of 2008, 'Changeling,' would prove to be the big hit, it was 'Gran Torino' that clicked with audiences and critics, eventually grossing over $130 million domestically. Eastwood's tale of racism and redemption will hit Blu-ray on June 9, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Warner has only issued an early trade alert as of now for the release, so there are no confirmed tech or supplement specs aside from a BD-Live exclusive music video for the film's title song. 'Anaconda' to Devour Blu-ray this June[teaser]Fans of big rubber snakes, mark your calendars: Sony has announced an early-June Blu-ray release for the camp-fest 'Anaconda.'[/teaser] Despite laughably bad CGI and a snake who could out-act stars Ice Cube and Jennifer Lopez, 'Anaconda' went on to be a surprise box office hit, eventually grossing over $50 million and spawning a pair of even more forgettable sequels. Sony will give the film it's first-ever Blu-ray release on June 2 (the studio previously released a DVD version in 1998.)
