'Cronos' and 'Videodrome' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Two great films by Del Toro and Cronenberg are coming to Blu-ray in December! [/teaser] Criterion has revealed Guillermo Del Toro's 1993 horror film 'Cronos' for Blu-ray on December 7. The Blu-ray will feature a newly restored 1080p transfer (supervised by Del Toro), a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 soundtrack, and supplements include: Audio commentary with Guillermo del Toro; Audio commentary with Producers Arthur H. Gorson and Bertha Navarro and coproducer Alejandro Springall; Geometría: an unreleased 1987 short horror film by Del Toro, finished by the director in 2010, plus a new video interview with him; Welcome to Bleak House: a video tour by Del Toro of his office, featuring his collectibles and personal work; New video interviews with Del Toro, Navarro, and actor Ron Perlman; Video interview with actor Federico Luppi; stills gallery; trailer; and a booklet featuring an essay by film critic Maitland McDonagh and excerpts from Del Toro's notes for the film. Criterion will also be bringing David Cronenberg's 1982 film 'Videodrome' starring James Woods and Deborah Harry on the same date. The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video and supplements will include: Audio commentary with David Cronenberg and director of photography Mark Irwin; Audio commentary with Actors James Woods and Deborah Harry; Camera (2000): a short film starring Videodrome's Les Carlson, written and directed by Cronenberg; Forging the New Flesh: a new half-hour documentary featurette by filmmaker Michael Lennick about the creation of Videodrome's video and prosthetic makeup effects; Effects Men: a new audio interview with special makeup effects creator Baker and video effects supervisor Lennick; Bootleg Video: the complete footage of Samurai Dreams and seven minutes of transmissions from Videodrome, presented in their original, unedited form with filmmaker commentary; Fear on Film: a 26-minute roundtable discussion from 1982 between filmmakers Cronenberg, John Carpenter, John Landis, and Mick Garris; Original theatrical trailers and promotional featurette; Stills galleries featuring hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes production photos, special effects makeup tests, and publicity photos; and a booklet featuring essays by writers Carrie Rickey, Tim Lucas, and Gary Indiana. Warner's Blu-ray 3D Wave in November[teaser]Early Blu-ray 3D adopters will finally be able to buy some content in two months! [/teaser] Warner Brothers is planning to bring six titles to the Blu-ray 3D format on November 16. The titles are 'Clash of the Titans (2010) - 3D,' 'Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore - 3D,' 'The Polar Express - 3D,' 'IMAX: Deep Sea - 3D,' ' IMAX: Under the Sea - 3D,' and 'IMAX: Space Station - 3D.' "This is an exciting time in the industry and we are thrilled to be a part of this evolution in home entertainment," said Dorinda Marticorena, SVP of worldwide marketing and high-def. "As sales of Blu-ray 3D hardware increase during the holidays, we wanted to ensure that consumers have access to a diverse selection of 3D content, not attached to an exclusive bundle, which will showcase the amazing possibilities of this brilliant new format – and this is just the beginning. 'The Frighteners' on Blu-ray[teaser]Another HD DVD exclusive looks to bescaring up Blu just in time for Halloween! [/teaser] According to a recent listing on Columbia House, Universal Studios is preparing Peter Jackson's 'The Frighteners' for Blu-ray on October 26. The film stars Michael J. Fox, Chi McBride, and Jeffrey Combs and the release will be the Director's Cut. It is unclear whether the the release will be widely available or will be exclusive to Columbia House. 'Se7en (Non-Digibook)' Blu-ray Wal-mart Exclusive[teaser]David Fincher's masterpiece has been released, but those who aren't fans of digibooks will want to head down to Wal-Mart.[/teaser] As previously reported, Warner Brothers/New Line Cinema released the crime thriller 'Se7en' starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Gwyneth Paltrow for a Blu-ray release on September 14 as a digibook. 'The Last Airbender' Announced on Blu-ray[teaser]M. Night Shyamalan's live-action spin on the hit Nickelodeon animated series will be bending Blu-ray this November. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount is working on 'The Last Airbender' for Blu-ray on November 16. The Blu-ray features 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: Origins of the Avatar: Birth of the mythology from the original co-creators of the animated show, Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Concept art from the popular series provides further perspective into how the story would eventually reincarnate into an epic feature film (in HD); Deleted scenes (in HD); and Outtakes (in HD).
