Sony Reveals First Ultra HD Blu-ray Titles, Release Date Set for Early 2016[teaser]The studio has announced its first batch of Ultra HD Blu-ray titles, including 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and 'Hancock.' [/teaser] Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has unveiled its initial lineup of Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs. The first wave of Sony Ultra Blu-ray titles will include 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' 'Salt,' 'Hancock,' 'Chappie,' 'Pineapple Express,' and 'The Smurfs 2.' "By some estimates, consumers will own over 100 million Ultra HD television sets by 2019. Sony Pictures' 4K Ultra HD Discs will deliver consumers the ultimate home theater experience, with stunning picture and sound quality," said SPHE president, Man Jit Singh. Singh continued, "Ten years ago this month, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment authored the world’s first feature film on Blu-ray Disc™, and we continue to bring consumers the most innovative, immersive home entertainment experiences available." Sony's Ultra HD Blu-ray titles will feature a resolution of 3840x2160 with HDR (high dynamic range), offering four times the resolution of HD along with superior contrast and colors on supported displays. In addition, many titles will also include support for immersive audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The initial collection of announced discs will be followed by more Sony new releases, TV shows, and classic films.
