Sony Unveils 'Devil's Own' Blu-ray Specs, Box Art[teaser]Sony has revealed specs and box art for the spring Blu-ray bow of 'The Devil's Own,' but fans may be disappointed by a complete lack of bonus features.[/teaser] As originally reported, Sony is bringing the 1997 Brad Pitt-Harrison Ford hit to Blu-ray on May 6, timed to coincide with the Memorial Day weekend launch of Ford's latest big-screen 'Indiana Jones' adventure. Now full details are in, but those expecting the studio to add at least a few new special features will have to make do with a completely bare bones release (in fact, not even a theatrical trailer is included). Tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, English, French and Portuguese Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround tracks, and a Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dub. Finally, Sony has issued the final box art for 'The Devil's Own,' which updates the film's original theatrical key art: As previously announced, Sony has set a suggested list price of $28.95. Sony Releases 'First Knight' Specs, Box Art[teaser]Sony has unveiled full specs and box art for 'First Knight,' which will hit Blu-ray this April as a full-featured special edition.[/teaser] As previously reported, Sony has set an April 29 Blu-ray debut for the Richard Gere-Sean Connery starrer, day-and-date with a new standard DVD re-issue. Just-confirmed tech specs boast 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround tracks in both English and French, plus Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Thai. Extras on the BD-50 dual-layer release will include audio commentary with director Jerry Zucker and producer Hunt Lowry, an additional "Arthurian Legend" historical commentary, three featurettes ("The Quest For Camelot," "In Shining Armor: Knights-in-Training," "The Creation of a Kingdom"), and a collection of deleted scenes and outtakes. First Look Goes Blu with 'War, Inc.'[teaser]Iindie First Look Studios has announced it is going all-Blu with the early-July release of the John Cusack comedy 'War, Inc.' [/teaser] Starring Cusack as a hitman who goes undercover as the organizer of a fake wedding between a pop star and a local politician, the Joshua Seftel-directed 'War, Inc' (formerly known as 'Brand Hauser') also stars Joan Cusack, Marisa Tomei and Hilary Duff. Following a theatrical release beginning May 23, 'War, Inc.' will hit Blu-ray July 1, day-and-date with the standard DVD. The title marks the first Blu-ray-exclusive release from First Look. The company had previously supported both next-gen formats with a number of titles, including 'The King of California' and 'The Amateurs.' A rep for First Look has told us that beginning with 'War, Inc.,' they have no plans to issue any further releases on HD DVD. There are no tech specs or supplemental details available for the next-gen version of 'War, Inc.,' but we'll keep you posted. Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $29.99. BBC Brings 'Wild China' to Blu-ray[teaser]BBC Video has announced that it will bring the six-part documentary 'Wild China' to Blu-ray in early July.[/teaser] As reported by our friends over at TV Shows on DVD, the joint production between BBC Natural History and China Central Television will hit Blu-ray on July 1, day-and-date with the standard DVD. (Note that although BBC remains format-agnostic, they have not currently announced an HD DVD version of 'Wild China.') The Blu-ray will spread the complete six-part series (which includes the episodes "The Great Rice Bowl," "The Forests of Shangri-La," "Tibet," "Beyond the Great Wall," "Land of the Dragon" and "Crowded Coasts") across two BD-50 dual-layer discs. Tech specs announced thus far include 1080p video and subtitle options in English and Chinese (Traditional Mandarin). There was no word on audio formats as of press time, but we'll keep you posted. Extras include the "Hunting Dragon" making-of featurette. Suggested retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.98. New Batch of Music Titles Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]Playing "catch up" with a number of its top HD DVD music releases, Image Entertainment has announced it is bringing a quintet of concert classics to Blu-ray beginning this Summer. [/teaser] There are no street dates yet, but Image says that starting in mid-2008, it will release on Blu-ray five music titles previously available only on HD DVD -- 'Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire: Live at the Greek,' 'Heart: Alive in Seattle,' 'Moody Blues: Lovely to See You Live,' 'Roy Orbison: Black and White Night' and 'Barry Manilow Live!' Specs have yet to be announced, but all titles are expected to mirror their HD DVD counterparts, which included 1080 video, remastered audio, and an assortment of bonus features. There are currently no suggested retail prices for any of the Blu-ray versions, but we'll keep you posted. Sony Sets 'Untraceable' Blu-ray for May[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced a May Blu-ray arrival for the Diane Lane serial killer thriller 'Untraceable.'[/teaser] Harped by critics as "'Silence of the Lambs' meets torture porn," thanks to its story of Lane tracking a serial killer who uses the internet to stage elaborate murder scenarios, 'Untraceable' scared up nearly $30 million at the domestic box office during its theatrical run earlier this year. Sony will debut the Blu-ray on May 13, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Extras for both versions will include an audio commentary with director Gregory Hoblit, and four making-of featurettes. Sondheim Comes to Blu-ray with 'Company'[teaser]Image Entertainment has announced a late-May Blu-ray arrival for the Tony-winning Broadway musical 'Company.'[/teaser] Sweeping all of the major awards at the 2007 Tonys (including Best Revival), 'Company' takes a comedic and unconventional look at love and commitment in Manhattan, and features nearly a dozen classic Stephen Sondheim songs, including "Another Hundred People," "Side by Side by Side," "The Ladies Who Lunch" and "Being Alive." Image Unveils Specs for 'Air I Breathe' Blu-ray[teaser]Image Entertainment has revealed full specs for 'The Air I Breathe,' which is due to hit Blu-ray this May as a full-featured special edition.[/teaser] As we previously reported, Image first announced the all-star indie drama for release on Blu-ray May 6 (day-and-date with the standard DVD), but the disc's initial specs had included no bonus features. Now the full specs are in, with both the Blu-ray and standard DVD set to share a well-rounded suite of extras, including audio commentary (with director Jieho Lee, co-writer Bob DeRosa, director of photography Walt Lloyd, and editor Robert Hoffman), a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, and the original theatrical trailer. Warner Announces Dual 'Batman Begins' Blu-rays[teaser]The wait is over: 'Batman Begins,' one of Warner's most highly-anticipated Blu-ray "catch-up" titles is due for release this July in standard and deluxe editions.[/teaser] Originally released on HD DVD back in October 2006 (read our review), 'Batman Begins' is one of a handful of high-profile Warner titles that were previously held back from Blu-ray release due to the format's then-inability to support the studio's "In-Movie Experience" picture-in-picture commentary feature. According to Home Media Magazine, the $200 million-grossing Christopher Nolan re-invention will hit Blu-ray on July 8 in two versions -- a standard Blu-ray version, and a 'Limited Edition Gift Set' featuring the same single-disc as the standard version plus deluxe packaging and a variety of collectibles. Among the goodies in the Gift Set are a Batman Begins motion art lenticular, script pages, exclusive photos, storyboards, five collectible Batman Begins postcards, an exclusive comic book prologue to the upcoming sequel 'The Dark Knight'' (set to hit theaters July 18), plus $7.50 in Movie Cash towards buying a 'Dark Knight' ticket. Warner has not yet issued tech specs or supplement details for 'Batman Begins,' but the Blu-rays are expected to include the PiP content found on the previous HD DVD version.
