Paul McCartney to Release First Blu-ray with 'Space Within Us'[teaser]Rock legend Paul McCartney is releasing his first Blu-ray, with A&E announcing a November bow for the concert film 'The Space Within Us.'[/teaser] In 2005, McCartney crossed America with his record-breaking, sold-out US tour. Captured with twenty-five hi-def cameras, 'Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us' presents the complete show that contains over two dozen musical masterpieces, including such Beatles classics as 'Eleanor Rigby,' 'Yesterday,' 'Penny Lane' and 'Hey Jude.' 'Tommy Boy' Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]In an early alert to retailers, Paramount has set a late-December Blu-ray release for the Chris Farley-David Spade comedy 'Tommy Boy.'[/teaser] Dubbed the "Holy Schnike! Edition," the $45 million-grossing cult favorite will hit Blu-ray on December 30. Extras will mirror the previous DVD special edition, including audio commentary with director Peter Segal, a quartet of featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, photo gallery, storyboards, and theatrical trailers and TV spots. Fox Announces Specs, Exclusives for 'Day the Earth Stood Still' Blu-ray[teaser]Fox has confirmed final specs for the 1951 classic 'The Day the Earth Stood Still,' which will arrive on Blu-ray this December with hours of bonus features and all-new exclusive content.[/teaser] As previously reported, Fox will release Robert Wise's seminal sci-fi masterwork on Blu-ray December 2, timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the upcoming big-budget remake starring Keanu Reeves. Now full specs are in, which will see the 92-minute feature presented on a BD-25 single-layer disc in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (1.33:1) with English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Extras will see an avalanche of material culled from the previous special edition DVD release, including a pair of audio Commentaries (with Robert Wise and Nicolas Meyer, and historians John Morgan, Steven Smith, William Stromberg and Nick Redman), an isolated score track, "The Making of The Day the Earth Stood Still" documentary, four additional featurettes ("Decoding 'Klaatu, Barada, Nikto': Science Fiction as Metaphor," "A Brief History of Flying Saucers," "The Astounding Harry Bates," "Edmund North: The Man Who Made the Earth Stand Still") the "Race To Oblivion: A Documentary Short" by Edmund North, the "Farewell To The Master" original Harry Bates short story, seven still galleries ("Advertising Gallery," "Behind-The Scenes Gallery," "Portrait Gallery," "Production Gallery," "Spaceship Construction Blueprints," "Shooting Script," " Interactive Pressbook"), a "The Day The Earth Stood Still Main Title Live Performance" by Peter Pringle, a vintage Fox Movietone newsreel, and the original theatrical trailer. Teen Drama 'The Clique' Coming to Blu-ray this November[teaser]Warner has announced it is bringing the indie teen drama 'The Clique' to Blu-ray in mid-November.[/teaser] Garnering only a limited release in theaters, this 'Mean Girls'-style tween satire of haves and have-nots will get a Blu-ray release on November 18, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Warner Announces Two Versions of 'Dark Knight' Blu-ray, Goes BD-Live[teaser]After months of rumors and anticipation, Warner has officially announced an early-December bow for dual Blu-ray versions of 'The Dark Knight,' which will hit high-def as the studio's first BD-Live release.[/teaser] In what could be one of the biggest-selling Blu-rays of all time, Warner will unleash the worldwide global box office phenomenon on Blu-ray in standard two-disc and collectible limited edition versions on December 9 (day-and-date with the DVD). Tech specs for the standard version include the 153-minute feature film spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/VC-1 video (2.40:1) and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs and subtitles are also provided in English, French-Quebec and Spanish.) Extras included on the first disc also include "Gotham Uncovered: Creation of a Scene," a "focus points" version of the film containing behind-the-scenes vignettes with director Christopher Nolan and his team discussing the planning of the film, the use of IMAX photography, the stunts, and more. Disc two will feature additional extras presented entirely in HD, including a pair of featurettes ("Batman Tech," "Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of the Dark Knight"), the "Gotham Tonight" collection of six episodes of the Gotham Cable's Premiere network, and "The Galleries," containing multiple still galleries, theatrical trailers and TV spots. In addition, 'The Dark Knight' will be the studio's first BD-Live-enabled title (content TBA). A Digital Copy of the film will also be included. Also due for release on December 9 will be 'The Dark Knight (Limited Edition),' which will include the identical two-disc standard Blu-ray edition, plus come housed in collectible "Bat Pod" packaging. Sony to Double Dip 'Stranger Than Fiction' Blu-ray[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced its latest "double dip" Blu-ray re-issue, a special edition of the Will Ferrell comedy 'Stranger Than Fiction' due in early February.[/teaser] Originally released on Blu-ray in early 2007, the Marc Forster directed cult hit will get a retooled version on December 2, when Sony releases 'Stranger Than Fiction (Special Edition)' (timed to coincide with the recently-announced Ferrell comedy 'Step Brothers'). Extras announced thus far are those found on the previous Blu-ray, including five featurettes ("On Location in Chicago," "Actors in Search of a Story," "Building the Team," "Words on a Page," "The VFX of Stranger than Fiction").
