Becoming one of the few indies to go format-agnostic, First Look Studios will add Blu-ray to its high-def menu when it brings 'King of California' and 'The Amateur' to both next-gen formats in early 2008.
First Look jumped into high-def this past July with the HD DVD-only debut of direct-to-video premiere thriller 'The Contract,' but had yet to announce any further titles. Now, after a window of over six months, they're expanding their support to include Blu-ray with the release of two high-profile but little-seen festival favorites next year.
'King of California,' starring Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood in a comedy about a mentally-unstable dad who tries to convince his daughter to hunt for treasure buried somewhere under suburbia, debuts January 29. The newly-retitled 'The Amateur' (aka 'The Mogul') follows two weeks later on February 12, starring Jeff Bridges as a man who, after a mid-life crisis, attempts to direct a porn movie.
No tech specs or supplemental details have been announced yet for either 'King of California' or 'The Amateur,' but stay tuned.
List price for both titles, on either format, is $29.99.
At press time, First Look had not yet announced any plans to release its premiere high-def title, 'The Contract,' on Blu-ray. However, if plans change we'll certainly you posted.
You'll find disc details for both 'King of California' and 'The Amateur' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule, where they are indexed under January 29 and February 12, respectively.
