Universal has announced a mid-October release for the Martin Scorsese crime classic 'Casino' on Blu-ray, as well as a bundle featuring three of the studio's top gangster favorites.
Due for release on October 14, 'Casino' trails by almost a year an HD DVD version of the Robert De Niro-Sharon Stone starrer (which netted multiple Oscar noms, including a Best Supporting Actress nod for Stone).
Tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p video (codec TBA) and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround.
There are no supplemental details as of yet, but a package comparable to the previous HD DVD is expected.
Also due for release on October 14 is the 'Gangster Giftset,' a three-pack bundle that includes 'Casino' plus the recently-announced 'American Gangster' and 'Eastern Promises.' Specs and extras are identical to the stand-alone versions.
Suggested list price has been set at $29.95 for 'Casino,' and $89.98 for the 'Gangster Giftset.'
You'll find the latest specs for 'Casino' and the 'Gangster Giftset' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under October 14.

Universal to Go 'Green-Ray' with 'Incredible Hulk'
Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 03:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Universal (all tags)
Though Universal has yet to announce it, a new trade ad has leaked the first details for 'The Incredible Hulk,' which will come to Blu-ray with limited edition "Green-ray" packaging and BD-Live features.
Appearing in this week's Home Media Magazine, the ad offers a sneak peek at 'The Incredible Hulk's green-band packaging, which will feature a limited edition 3-D lenticular cover.
Also promised on the upcoming release will be BD-Live connectivity, including a "My Chat" feature allow multiple users to watch the movie simultaneously, as well as possible additional web-enabled features to be announced at a later date.
Missing from the ad, however, is any word on the previously-touted "director's cut" version that reportedly contains as much as 70 minutes of additional footage. According to the trade ad, the runtime for the Blu-ray of the 'Hulk' is 114 minutes, identical to the theatrical cut.
At press time, Universal has not yet issued a press release for 'The Incredible Hulk,' but early retailer alerts have pegged an October 21 street date for the Blu-ray, day-and-date with the standard DVD.
As always, we'll keep you posted as soon as further word comes to us.
In the meantime, you'll find a preliminary listing for 'The Incredible Hulk' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under October 21.

Coming eight months after the HD DVD, Universal has announced a mid-October Blu-ray bow for the Oscar-nominated crime epic 'American Gangster.'
Previously released on HD DVD earlier this year to middling reaction, that release featured only the theatrical cut of the film and a limited selection of extras.

Tech specs feature 1080p video (codec TBA) and an English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track (48kHz/24-bit).
Extras shared with the previous two-disc DVD edition include audio commentary with director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Steven Zaillian (theatrical cut), three featurettes ("Fallen Empire: Making American Gangster," "Case Files," "Hip-Hop Infusion Featuring Common and T.I."), a pair or TV special excerpts ( "The BET Special: The Making of American Gangster," "Dateline NBC: American Gangster First Look"), deleted scenes, two music videos, and the original theatrical trailer
Exclusive to the Blu-ray release is a picture-in-picture (Bonus View) commentary on the unrated cut featuring additional cast & crew interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
Suggested list price for the BLu-ray has been set at $34.95.

Universal has announced full specs for the September Blu-ray release of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' which will get the full special edition treatment with hours of bonus features and exclusive content.
As originally reported, Universal has set a September 30 street date for the $60 million-grossing 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the standard DVD. (It will also join the Judd Apatow-directed smashes 'Knocked Up' and 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' on the same day as part of the 'Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection,' featuring all three stand-alone Blu-ray releases in one bundle.)
Full specs were previously scarce, but Universal has now issued the full press details, which will see a mammoth two-disc set that may be the studio's most extensive yet.
Presented in both its unrated and R-rated versions on a BD-50 dual-layer disc (via seamless branching), tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track. (A Digital Copy of the film in standard-definition will also be included on a separate disc.)
Supplements shared between the next-gen and standard DVD versions include a visual commentary with cast and crew, additional audio commentary (on both the unrated and R-rated versions), the featurette "A Taste for Love," additional video diaries, no less than two hours of deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, karaoke function, a mock music video, additional outtakes, three montages ("Line-O-Rama," "Drunk-O-Rama," "Sex-O-Rama") and the film's original "Red Band" theatrical trailer.
Exclusive to the Blu-ray release is a picture-in-picture video commentary (with director Nick Stoller, executive producer Rodney Rothman, producer Shauna Robertson, writer/star Jason Segel and cast members Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand, and Jack McBrayer), a "My Scenes Sharing" online bookmark function, and additional BD-Live features (TBA).
Finally, Universal has issued the final box art for 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall':

Rumor Patrol: Universal Prepping 'Wanted' Blu-ray for December
Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 03:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Universal (all tags)
Universal has yet to announce it, but early word is coming from retailers that the studio is planning an early-December bow for the hit action-thriller 'Wanted.'
Starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and based on a smash cult graphic novel of the same name, 'Wanted' has grossed over $100 million (and counting) at the domestic box office.
At press time, Universal had yet to confirm its video plans for 'Wanted,' though a December 2 date has begun to circulate to retailers for the Blu-ray, arriving day-and-date with the standard DVD.
Again, Universal has yet to make the official announcement, so this information is still safely in the rumor department. We'll keep you posted.
As we await further word, we've added a listing for 'Wanted' to our Blu-ray Release Schedule, indexed under December 2. Stay tuned!

'Hulk' Headed to Blu-ray this September
Mon Aug 04, 2008 at 11:00 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Universal (all tags)
It's not this summer's latest big-screen incarnation of the angry green guy, but Universal has confirmed a September Blu-ray bow for Ang Lee's 2003 version of 'Hulk.'
Though it enjoyed a strong opening weekend at the box office 'Hulk' quickly faded from theaters, transforming it almost overnight from hit to flop. Recently "reimagined" as this summer's hit 'The Incredible Hulk' (which remains unannounced for next-gen release), the original Lee adaptation will hit Blu-ray on September 16, almost a year after the previous HD DVD release.
Extras will mirror the HD DVD, with audio commentary with Lee, deleted scenes, and a suite of five featurettes ("Evolution of the Hulk," "The Incredible Ang Lee," "The Dog Fight Scene," "The Making of Hulk," "The Unique Style of Editing Hulk"

Universal has announced plans to bring three of its top catalog horror hits to Blu-ray this September with all-new U-Control features, both as stand-alone releases and a three-title 'Halloween Starter Pack.'

Extras confirmed so far include filmmaker audio commentaries on all three titles, and multiple making-of featurettes on 'Land of the Dead.'
