The flagship player from Marantz represents, according to the press release, the pinnacle of home entertainment audio and video reproduction. At $6000, it sure better!

Marantz says this player will play virtually any 12mm audio or video disc ever created. A pair of Sharc DSPs are onboard decode HD audio, and the 32-bit floating point Analog Devices DSP gives the purest sound possible. When using the player for audio, video output can even be shut down to ensure that the unit is focused on sound and sound alone.

Dual HDMI outputs allow for audio and video to be sent separately. Video is sent out with 36-bit Deep Color and a 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset. Those recreating the cinema experience in the home will note the addition of a digital Vertical Stretch feature, which eliminates black bars without adding distortion or artifacts. An Ethernet port is available for BD-Live features, but at $6,000, is the inclusion Wi-Fi really too much to ask?

BD 5004 and BD 7004 set to wow high end consumers

Marantz is launching its new line of Blu-ray players, the BD 5004 and the BD 7004, this August. An established brand in high end electronics, the folks at Marantz are sticking with what they know best, high quality for a high end consumer.

The BD 5004 features DivX playback, BD-Live support, AVCHD, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD bitstreaming, and the 7004 adds 7.1 analog outs, DTS-HD MA decoding, as well as an Anchor Bay Reference Series processor.

Missing are some of the newer features that are becoming standard in Blu-ray players such as access to streaming video, but Marantz seems to be betting against that need. With so many new TVs taking care of that role, a high quality standalone Blu-ray player may be just what the market ordered.

This isn't the first time we've seen this "ultimate-quality" Blu-ray player from Marantz, but the pricey deck has a new release date.

First unveiled at CEDIA last summer, Marantz says its $2,099.99 player (yes, you read that right) is now due to hit stores in the second quarter of this year.

So what do you get in a $2,100 Blu-ray player? According to a company press release, the Profile 1.1 player features full 1080p output and decoding for all current high-resolution audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Lossless Master Audio and uncompressed PCM, outputting both 7.1-channel analog signals and PCM audio via HDMI.

An apparent re-badge of Denon's DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Player, the deck is also slated to include the Realta HQV video processor, which allows for advanced video clean-up of even the best high-def signals
