Anchor Bay to Configure 'Hellraiser' in Blu-ray 'Puzzle Box'
Thu Feb 05, 2009 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, High-Def Disc Marketing, Anchor Bay (all tags)
'Hellraiser' fans, Anchor Bay is planning to double your pain: the studio has announced not one but two Blu-ray configurations of the Clive Barker horror classic.
As previously announced, Anchor Bay alerted retailers to an April 21 Blu-ray street date for the seminal cult hit, but kept any further details under wraps.
Now further confirmed press details have been unleashed, with the company unveiling not one, but two Blu-ray versions of 'Hellraiser.'
The first will be a stand-alone Blu-ray release, billed as a special edition and containing extras that are expected to match the previous "20th Anniversary Edition" Anchor Bay released on DVD.
Also due for high-def on April 21 is the 'Hellraiser Puzzle Box,' a three-disc edition that includes the stand-alone Blu-ray (with identical specs), plus standard DVD versions of 'Hellraiser: 20th Anniversary Edition' and the 1987 sequel 'Hellbound: Hellraiser II.'
Though no additional Blu-ray content or other exclusives are planned for the 'Puzzle Box,' and final tech and supplements have yet to be finalized. We'll keep you posted.
Suggested list price for the stand-alone Blu-ray of 'Hellraiser' is $34.95, and $59.95 for the 'Hellraiser Puzzle Box.'
You'll find the latest specs for both 'Hellraiser' and the 'Hellraiser Puzzle Box' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under April 21.

'No Country for Old Men' to Get Blu-ray Double-Dip
Wed Jan 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM ETTags: Disc Announcements, High-Def Disc Marketing, Disney (all tags)
In a rare double dip for the studio, Walt Disney has announced it is bringing a new version of 'No Country for Old Men' to Blu-ray this April.
The Oscar-winning modern classic from Joel and Ethan Coen received an initial Blu-ray release in early 2008. Though light on extras, the disc still sold like gangbusters, helping to push overall Blu-ray sales to new highs.
Disney will return to the same well twice for the 'No Country for Old Men: Collector's Edition,' which will receive a two-disc Blu-ray release on April 7. (The existing Blu-ray version will be discontinued.)
Tech specs will see a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround.
Extras from the previous release include three featurettes ("The Making of No Country For Old Men," "Working With The Coens," "The Diary Of A Country Sheriff").
New to the Collector's Edition is a host of TV excerpts ("ABC 'Popcorn' Video," "Channel 4 News Joel And Ethan Coen Appearance," "Lunch With David Poland IKLIPE, Javier Bardem And Josh Brolin Interview," "WNBC Reel Talk With Lyons & Bailes and Josh Brolin," "LA WGAW Q&A Panel," "Charlie Rose Featuring Joel And Ethan Coen, Josh Brolin And Javier Bardem"), additional interviews ("EW.com "Just A Minute...With Javier Bardem," "Q&A with Joel And Ethan Coen, Roger Deakins And The Sound And Production Design Crews," "Variety Screening Series Q&A," "In-Store Appearance With Javier Bardem And Josh Brolin"), six more audio-only interviews, and a bonus on-set segment "Josh Brolin's Unauthorized Behind-The-Scenes."
A second standard DVD will include a Digital Copy of the film.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.95.

Echo Bridge Unleashes "BluCube" Box Sets for Blu-ray
Fri Oct 17, 2008 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, High-Def Disc Marketing, Echo Bridge (all tags)
Echo Bridge is boxing up its entire next-gen library, with plans to offer 10-disc and 20-disc Blu-ray box set collections this November.
The indie distributor began releasing low-priced Blu-ray titles earlier this year, and has so far amassed a twenty-strong catalog that consumers will now be able to conveniently pick up on November 18 in two different affordable collections.
The 'BluCube (10 Pack)' contains: '10.5 Apocalypse: The Complete Miniseries,' 'Artie Lange's Beer League,' 'Blackbeard,' 'The Big White,' 'Category 7: The End Of The World,' 'The Curse Of King Tut's Tomb,' 'Final Days of Planet Earth,' 'Mortuary,' 'Mysterious Island' and 'The Poseidon Adventure.'
The 'BlueCube (20 Pack)' features all the titles in the 10 Pack, plus ten more hits: 'Angel in the Family,' 'The Colt,' 'Cruel World,' 'The Final Patient,' 'The Last Sentinel,' 'Salem Witch Trials,' 'Salvage,' 'Supernova,' 'The Ten Commandments,' and 'The Woods Have Eyes.'
All discs are identical to the stand-alone versions, and there are no additional extras or collectibles included.
Suggested retail price for the 10 Pack is $79.99, and $149.99 for the 20 Pack.

'Kung Fu Panda' Gets Sequel, Sunday Street Date
Tue Sep 16, 2008 at 01:00 PM ETTags: High-Def Disc Marketing, Street Date Changes, DreamWorks (all tags)
In a first-of-its-kind marketing move, DreamWorks Animation is bundling the Blu-ray of 'Kung Fu Panda' with its direct-to-video sequel, and giving it a Sunday release date instead of the usual Tuesday.
Unlike most studios which release video premiere sequels as stand-alone releases, DreamWorks will package 'Secrets of the Furious Five," a companion film to the $215 million-grossing 'Kung Fu Panda' with both the Blu-ray and DVD versions. 'Furious Five' will again feature the voices of 'Panda' stars Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman.
Also unique to the video release of 'Panda' is DreamWorks confirming a Sunday, November 9 street date (day-and-date on Blu-ray and DVD), which bucks the industry norm of releasing new titles on a Tuesday.
The studio has yet to reveal full supplement details or tech specs for the Blu-ray of 'Kung Fu Panda' and its companion sequel, but as always, we'll keep you posted.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $39.98.
You'll find the latest specs for 'Kung Fu Panda' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under November 9.

Pledging to bring affordable high-def to the masses, newcomer Cinevolve Studios has announced a Fall debut for its first two low-priced Blu-ray titles.
Initially jumping into the DVD market earlier this year, the indie distributor will now launch its next-gen support, pledging "Blu-ray titles at DVD prices."
"We believe the new and better format shouldn't be a luxury item, and we want audiences to see our films on the best formats out there," said Arik Treston, co-founder and CEO of Cinevolve.
The company will kick-off their Blu-ray support with 'Holiday Favorites with the Wonderland Carolers,' which streets on October 21. Suggested list price has been set at $22.95.
The studio will follow that up with the 2007 Australian thriller 'The Line,' which arrives on November 25 (day-and-date with the standard DVD) with an MSRP of $29.95.
Cinevolve has not yet announced tech specs or supplement details for either title, but we'll keep you posted.
