Bonus View Digest - July 1, 2011[TEASER]Even though we've got a big holiday weekend coming up, The Bonus View hasn't taken any time off. On the contrary, we've been posting about everything HD with our frequent news and editorial items. Here's a look at some of the fun you may have missed out on this week.[/TEASER] Blu-ray News Josh gave us the heads up on what Blu-rays we needed to have this week with his rundown of the new releases. This week saw one of Blu-ray fans most anticipated releases, 'Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions.' In other Blu-ray news we discussed the aspect ratio controversy on the 'Barry Lyndon' disc. We had another big contest on the blog too. Win a copy of 'Sucker Punch' on Blu-ray. All you have to do is add a caption to the photo contained in the post. Hurry though, today is the last day to enter. Theatrical News This was a huge week for the theaters. Luke let us know how 'Cars 2' did in the theaters. He also reviewed 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon.' The 'Transformers' discussion got a little…er…really heated. At last count there were a total of 128 comments on the post debating the good and not-so-good of Michael Bay and his movies. Dive right on in and post your own opinions. Luke also reviewed the theatrical releases of 'Larry Crowne' and 'Monte Carlo.' We also took some time to discuss a couple brand-new movie posters that came out in this week's Posterizing. Do you think the American version of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' is too sexually explicit? Come voice your opinion now. TV Recaps Summer TV season is in full swing now and we've got the recaps to prove it. Recaps from 'Burn Notice,' ' Suits,' 'Wilfred,' 'True Blood,' and 'Covert Affairs' are all up for your reading pleasure. Special Features Josh posted a nice piece about the man who played Columbo, Peter Falk. Falk passed away this week and will be missed. This past week's Weekend Roundtable focused on our favorite Blu-ray demo scenes and asked the readers to list their own. The Mid-Week Poll asked us which movies we were going to see in theaters over the 4th of July weekend. Michael Bay sent a letter to projectionists around the country telling them how to do their jobs. Finally, Dick Ward let us know what we can expect to see on the Netflix Stream and what is leaving. Thanks for taking the time to be with us at The Bonus View. Readers make all the difference. We'd like to take this time to wish you a Happy 4th of July (and Canada Day) and hope your weekend is a safe and happy one. For those of you that don't live in North America, we wish you a happy weekend too (only with less fireworks).Posted Fri Jul 1, 2011 at 11:55 AM PDT by: -

'The Clowns' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Federico Fellini's 1970 'I Clowns' is getting the Blu-ray treatment this September. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, E1 Entertainment is getting ready to send in 'The Clowns' on Blu-ray on September 27. Fellini's fascination with the circus and the surreal come to a head in one of his final masterpieces, 'The Clowns.' The film reflects Fellini's childhood obsession with clowns and begins with a young boy watching a circus set up from his bedroom window. Though comical and referred to as a "docu-comedy", this film explores deeper human conditions such as authority, poverty, humility and arrogance all of which manifest themselves through the characters of the clowns who vary from the local sex-crazed hobo, a midget nun, to a mutilated Mussolini disciple. The film then diverges from its narrative and dreamy state to a more documentary like approach as Fellini searches out these jesters of his youth in Paris to see what has become of them. Featuring Anita Ekberg, the star of his 1960's masterpiece, 'La Dolce Vita' and the director himself. Specs and supplements have yet to be revealed, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.98. You can find the latest specs for 'The Clowns' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it is indexed under September 27.Posted Fri Jul 1, 2011 at 08:00 AM PDT by: -
