'The Quay Brothers: Collected Short Films' Blu-ray Bound[teaser]15 animated short films from the directors will hit Blu-ray in October. You can pre-order the disc here. [/teaser]In an early announcement to retailers, Zeitgeist Films is preparing 'The Quay Brothers: Collected Short Films' for Blu-ray on October 20. Since the late 1970s, identical twins Stephen and Timothy Quay have been creating their unique blend of puppetry and stop-motion animation, and have, in the process, spawned an enormous cult following. The Quays display a passion for detail, a breathtaking command of color and texture, and an uncanny use of focus and camera movement that make their films unique and instantly recognizable. Best known for their classic 1986 film Street Of Crocodiles which filmmaker Terry Gilliam selected as one of the ten best animated films of all time they are masters of miniaturization and on their tiny sets have created an unforgettable world, suggestive of a landscape of long-repressed childhood dreams. This new Blu-ray collection of fifteen of the Quays films allows us to see their work in all its astonishing detail and ravaged beauty. The collection also includes a remarkable new short film by Christopher Nolan a long-time fan of the Quays. Specs have not been detailed yet, but supplements will include: Six audio commentaries; New director-approved soundtrack for The Phantom Museum; and a 32-page booklet. Well Go USA Preps 'The Timber' Blu-ray for October[teaser]The western will hit Blu-ray in March. Fatih Akin's 'The Cut' Bound for Blu-ray[teaser]The film based on the Armenian genocide is planned for Blu-ray early next year. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Strand Releasing will be releasing 'The Cut' on Blu-ray on January 19. 'The Cut' is Fatih Akin's epic drama about one man's journey through the Ottoman Empire after surviving the 1915 Armenian genocide. Deported from his home in Mardin, Nazareth (Tahar Rahim, A Prophet) moves onwards as a forced laborer. When he learns that his twin daughters may still be alive, his hope is revived and he travels to America, via Cuba, to find them. His search takes him from the Mesopotamian deserts and Havana to the barren and desolate prairies of North Dakota. On this odyssey, he encounters a range of very different people: angelic and kind-hearted characters, but also the devil incarnate. Fatih Akin on the cinematic and literary inspirations for 'The Cut': "Elia Kazan's America America (1963), certain aesthetics of the cinematography, as well as shooting the film in English and naturally the long voyage of the young man through the impoverished towns and villages on the way to Constantinople. Surreal French film set on a futuristic oil rig, where a man, Krank, has aged prematurely, because he has lost the ability to dream. To reverse the ageing process he kidnaps children from the local harbour town so that he can steal their dreams.
