Sony Unveils Box Art, Goes Unrated for 'Prom Night' Blu-ray[teaser]Sony has unwrapped final box art and specs for the horror hit 'Prom Night,' which will hit Blu-ray this August in a new unrated version with exclusive bonus content.[/teaser] The slasher remake was originally announced earlier this month for a August 19 Blu-ray debut (day-and-date with the DVD), and promising extensive supplemental features. Sony has now set final specs, which include an unrated version of the film spread over a BD-50 dual-layer disc, with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras shared across both versions include audio commentary with director Nelson McCormick and cast, deleted scenes and an alternate ending (with optional commentary), and a suite of five featurettes ("Bridgeport High Vikings Video Yearbook," "A Night To Remember: The Making of Prom Night," "Profile of a Killer," "Gothic Spaces: Creating the Pacific Grand Hotel," "Prom Night Photo Album: Real Prom Stories From the Cast"). Exclusive to the Blu-ray will be a Bonus View (Profile 1.1)-enabled picture-in-picture storyboard track, as well as a BD-Live polling feature dubbed "Where is the Best Place to Hide a Body?" Universal to Bring 'End of Days' to Blu-ray[teaser]Over a year after it first hit HD DVD, Universal has given the Arnold Schwarzenegger thriller 'End of Days' an August Blu-ray release date.[/teaser] Starring Schwarzenegger as a cynical cop out to do battle with the Antichrist, the 1999 post-apocalyptic thriller will hit Blu-ray on August 26 (where it joins another recently-announced Universal action hit, 'Miami Vice'). Specs include 1080p video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track (the previous HD DVD featured Dolby TrueHD audio). Extras will mirror the previous standard DVD and HD DVD versions, with audio commentary by director Peter Hyams, a trio of featurettes, a music video, and the theatrical trailer. Jet Li, Jackie Chan Hit Blu-ray with 'Forbidden Kingdom'[teaser]Lionsgate has announced an early-September bow for the Jackie Chan-Jet Li actioner 'Forbidden Kingdom.'[/teaser] Marking the first big-screen collaboration for the legendary superstars, 'The Forbidden Kingdom' earned over $25 million at the domestic box office earlier this year. Lionsgate will debut the Blu-ray on September 9, day-and-date with the standard DVD. Tech specs include a BD-50 dual-layer presentation in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video, with a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround track. The studio has yet to issue any supplemental details, aside from including a Digital Copy of the film playable on portable video devices. Raw Feed Bringing Double Dose of 'Rest Stop' to Blu-ray[teaser]Raw Feed and Warner Premiere have announced the next-gen arrival of the direct-to-video horror flick 'Rest Stop' and its sequel, both of which make their Blu-ray debuts in time for Halloween.[/teaser] Due in stores October 7, Warner will premiere both 'Rest Stop' (which first hit standard DVD last year) and its upcoming sequel 'Rest Stop: Don't Look Back' (the latter of which will hit retail day-and-date). Both titles will be presented in their gruesome uncut forms across BD-25 single-layer discs, in 1080p/VC-1 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Tchaikovsky's 'Piano Concertos' Audio Blu-ray Announced[teaser]Surround Records has announced a late-June arrival for its latest Blu-ray multichannel audio release, 'Tchaikovsky: Piano Concertos 1 & 3.'[/teaser] Taking inspiration from Ukrainian folk songs, 'Tchaikovsky: Piano Concertos 1 & 3' features a pair of the famed composer's performances presented in an "Acoustic Reality Experience," designed to give listeners a realistic representation of the acoustic spaces in which performances originally took place. The street date for the Blu-ray is June 24. Carrying on the tradition of its past Blu-ray releases, Surround Records presents 'Tchaikovsky' in remixed 7.1-channel DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio high-resolution surround (24-bit/96k), along with an accompanying video track that features multimedia artwork and visuals encoded in 1080p/VC-1. Fox Planning August Blu-ray Release for 'Street Kings'[teaser]In an early announcement to retailers, Fox will bring the gritty crime flick 'Street Kings' to Blu-ray this August.[/teaser] Starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker, 'Street Kings' caused barely a ripple at the domestic box office this past Winter, but it will get another shot when Fox releases the David Ayer-directed pic on August 19 (day-and-date with the standard DVD). Tech specs for 'Street Kings' include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video (2.35:1) and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround soundtrack. Within Temptation's 'Black Symphony' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]Indie rockers Within Temptation have announced plans to bring their concert film 'Black Symphony' to Blu-ray this Fall as a feature-laden special edition.[/teaser] Captured at Rotterdam's Ahoy Arena on February 7, 2008 using over a dozen HD cameras, 'Within Temptation: Black Symphony' will hit Blu-ray on September 22 (day-and-date with the standard DVD) . There are no tech specs yet announced, but the band promises that both the Blu-ray and DVD versions will share numerous bonus features, including unseen performances, backstage material, and more. Within Temptation has not yet announced a suggested list price for the Blu-ray of 'Black Symphony' (or even picked a distributor), but we'll certainly keep you posted as more information comes to us. Six Classic Bond Titles To Hit Blu-ray this October[teaser]MGM/Fox today officially announced the first next-gen release of a half-dozen James Bond catalog titles, which will hit Blu-ray this October in newly-remastered special editions.[/teaser] Spanning several Bond eras (and lead actors), the six titles due to hit Blu-ray on October 21 (day-and-date with new DVD re-issues) include: 'Dr. No,' 'From Russia with Love,' 'Thunderball,' 'Live and Let Die,' 'For Your Eyes Only,' and 'Die Another Day.' Timed to coincide with the upcoming theatrical release of the latest Bond film, 'Quantum of Solace,' each of the six titles will receive a frame-by-frame digital restoration courtesy of Lowry Digital Images (the same company behind the recent well-received remasters of 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones'), as well as a bevy of still-unnamed supplemental features. "With 'Quantum of Solace' on the horizon, Bond fever is building once again," said Eric Doctorow, General Manager Worldwide, MGM Home Entertainment, via press release. "There is no better time to re-introduce these beloved films featuring the best picture and sound quality available today to the 60 million-plus, HD-capable households worldwide." MGM/Fox has yet to release any additional specs or bonus features on the six Bond titles, but says full details will be revealed over the coming weeks. Sony Sets 'CJ7' Blu-ray for August[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced a mid-August Blu-ray bow for the Chinese fantasy drama 'CJ7.'[/teaser] Directed by Stephen Chow, the family-friendly tale of a young boy who learns valuable life lessons thanks to a magical new toy, 'CJ7' enjoyed only a limited theatrical release in the U.S. but will get a wider push when Sony releases the film on Blu-ray August 12 (day-and-date with the standard DVD). 'Miami Vice' Coming to Blu-ray[teaser]Universal will increase its growing line-up of Blu-ray catalog titles when it brings Michael Mann's 'Miami Vice' to the format this August.[/teaser] Mann's big-screen update of his classic '80s television show (which grossed a disappointing $65 million at the domestic box office) will hit Blu-ray on August 26, over a year after it was first released on HD DVD. Presented in an Unrated Director's Cut featuring seven minutes of footage not seen in the theaters, tech specs include a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track.
