'Stargate' Gets Double Dip Blu-ray[teaser]Lionsgate has announced 'Stargate: 15th Anniversary Edition' for a Blu-ray bow this October. [/teaser] The classic science fiction film starring Kurt Russell and James Spader will be re-released in both its theatrical and unrated extended cuts to high-definition this October 27. The release will have a new 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 encode, an English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, and there will be over four hours of supplements including three brand new featurettes, a trivia track, and a gag reel. Sony Inks Production Deal With Sharp, Looks Toward Samsung[teaser]Announced earlier this week in Japanese business paper Nikkei, Sony and Sharp have finally put long anticipated joint venture plans into place. [/teaser] This is a multibillion dollar deal that sets Sony up to have access to TVs made in Sharp’s Sakai plant. Sharp also plans to sell off additional stakes in the plant to companies such as Toshiba. Not satisfied with just that, Sony may continue their expansion by enlisting Samsung to produce panels later this year. LG President Says Strategy To Overcome Global Recession Is Working[teaser]Focus on higher end products pays off for LG.[/teaser] LG’s summer line show kicked off with a keynote by president Teddy Hwang, who says LG is flourishing despite a down US economy. At $6000, it sure better![/teaser] Marantz says this player will play virtually any 12mm audio or video disc ever created. A pair of Sharc DSPs are onboard decode HD audio, and the 32-bit floating point Analog Devices DSP gives the purest sound possible. When using the player for audio, video output can even be shut down to ensure that the unit is focused on sound and sound alone. Dual HDMI outputs allow for audio and video to be sent separately. Video is sent out with 36-bit Deep Color and a 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset. Those recreating the cinema experience in the home will note the addition of a digital Vertical Stretch feature, which eliminates black bars without adding distortion or artifacts.
