In a late-breaking announcement, Universal Music has set an early-January Blu-ray release for the pop documentary 'ABBA: The Movie.'
The 1977 big-screen feature, which chronicles the band's frenzied tour of Australia, is likely being rush-released to capitalize on the recent success of 'Mamma Mia!' (which hit Blu-ray earlier this month to strong sales).
Only days away, Universal has set a January 6 street date for the Blu-ray. (The company had previously-released the film on standard DVD, as well as an import-only Blu-ray version.)
Extras will mirror the previous DVD and import high-def releases, including the featurette "Looking Back," a pair of interactive "Tour Souvenir Program" and "Memorabilia" galleries, a theatrical trailer and two TV spots.
There are no tech specs yet, but we'll keep you posted.
Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $24.98.
