Though Sony remains the biggest studio proponent of Blu-ray and has big plans for 'Da Vinci' on the format, the effort required to ramp up the set's bonus features, all of which were shot in high-definition, ultimately prevented the release from hitting stores day-and-date with the DVD.
"We really felt it really required an appropriate amount of time to create the best Blu-ray release [of 'Da Vinci Code'] possible," Sony senior VP Fritz Friedman told Video Business. "It will be well worth the wait."
Though Sony had no further details on the upcoming Blu-ray release of $225-million grossing blockbuster, expectations now are that 'The Da Vinci Code' likely hit Blu-ray sometime in the first half of 2007.
In the meantime, we've added the title to the "Release Dates Pending"
section of our comprehensive Blu-ray
Release Schedule. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: Late this afternoon, a listing for 'The Da Vinci Code' on Blu-ray briefly appeared on Sony Pictures Home Entertaiment's official retail and press website. We contacted the studio about the information, and we were told that the listing was a "mistake," and the title will not be streeting day-and-date with the DVD on November 14. The studio has since pulled the listing from their website. However, we were able to download the Blu-ray disc's box art, and have also added a new listing for 'The Da Vinci Code' to our Blu-ray
Release Schedule, filing it under the "Release Dates Postponed" section. At least for now...
