Full specs have come in for MGM's Blu-ray launch titles, with the studio
announcing support for the DTS Master Audio format but eschewing extras on its
first discs.
As first reported late last week, MGM will release 'Windtalkers'
and the Oscar-winning cult favorite 'The
Usual Suspects' on November 28, followed by 'Bulletproof
Monk' and the classic 'Rocky'
on December 5. The four titles be the first in the studios' new distribution
pact with Fox Home Entertainment
Like Fox's first Blu-ray titles, all of MGM's initial releases will be presented
in full 1080p video and include both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Master Audio
lossless surround tracks. However, departing from Fox's approach of using AVC/MPEG-4
compression, MGM will utilize MPEG-2 only on its discs.
Also, in a move likely to disappoint Blu-ray early adopters, apparently none
of MGM's first titles will include any supplemental features, nor any exclusive
HD content (aside from "unique interactive pop-up menus"), despite the discs' premium $39.98 list price.
Full details for all four of the MGM titles can be found via the studio's
official press release here.
Complete specs have also been added to our complete Blu-ray
Release Schedule, with box art for all four MGM titles expected in the days
ahead.
