The StudioCanal Collection brings the timeless French classic to Blu-ray in July.
In an early announcement to retailers, Lionsgate is preparing 'La Grande Illusion' will be released on the high-definition format on July 31.
A masterpiece of French cinema, 'La Grande Illusion' was directed by Academy Award® nominee Jean Renoir (Best Director, 'The Southerner,' 1945) and was the first foreign language film ever nominated for the Best Picture Oscar® (1938). Named one of “The 100 Best Films in World Cinema” in 2010, the film stars Jean Gabin ('Le Jour se Leve'), Dita Parlo ('L’Atalante'), Pierre Fresnay ('The Man Who Knew Too Much'), Erich Von Stroheim ('Sunset Boulevard'), Marcel Dalio ('Gentlemen Prefer Blondes') and Julien Carette ('The Rules of the Game').
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 soundtrack, and supplements will include: Two all-new critical retrospectives (La Grande Illusion: Success and Controversy by cinema expert and Jean Renoir specialist Olivier Curchod & The original negative of La Grande Illusion by la Cinémathèque de Toulouse's Natacha Laurent); Restoring La Grande Illusion featurette; La Grande Illusion appreciation by cinema professor and film critic Ginette Vincendeau; John Truby film presentation; and Trailers from 1937 and 1958 - Presentation of the movie by Jean Renoir.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.99.
