The king will return to theaters later this month.
In anticipation for the film's July 19 premiere, Disney has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette focused on The Lion King. The upcoming movie serves as a photorealistic CG remake of the studio's 1994 animated classic of the same name.
Titled, "The King Returns," the new featurette includes interview snippets with director Jon Favreau and various cast members, including Donald Glover, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Likewise, we also get some behind-the-scenes clips of the recording process, including a brief look at Beyoncé and James Earl Jones in the booth.
Check out the featurette below!
From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
The cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and John Oliver as Zazu.
The film is the latest in a series of recent live-action and realistic CG adaptations based on classic Disney animated films, including Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and Aladdin.
