The truth is finally out: Fox is planning to bring the 'X-Files' movies to Blu-ray, the films' producer announced this week via his official blog.
As first revealed on www.xfiles.com, producer Frank Spotnitz surprised devotees with a posting to his blog revealing tantalizing details of first-ever Blu-ray and standard DVD re-issue versions of the first big-screen 'X-Files' film.
"We are working on packing the [re-issued] DVD and Blu-Ray DVD releases with as many extras as they will fit, including video and audio commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, bloopers, trailers, a new documentary, and several other cool surprises," said Spotnitz.
No planned release window was provided, but Spotnitz further hinted that plans are also underway to bring the upcoming 'X-Files' theatrical sequel 'I Want to Believe' to Blu-ray and DVD as well, the concurrent release of 'Fight the Future' appears likely.
Though the news is certainly music to 'X-Files' fans' ears, those hoping to see a Blu-ray release of the original television series will remain disappointed -- Spotnitz says there are currently "no plans" to bring any seasons of the show to high-def.
At press time, Fox had neither confirmed nor denied plans for any 'X-Files' releases on Blu-ray, but as always we'll keep you updated as any official news comes in.
In the meantime, we've added listings for 'X-Files: Fight the Future' and 'X-Files: I Want to Believe' to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule.
