Released just after the end of WWII and winning seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Frederic March) and Best Director (William Wyler), the film captures the impact on the lives of returning war veterans Captain Fred Derry (Dana Andrews), who's returning to a loveless marriage; Sergeant Al Stephenson (Fredric March), a stranger to a family that's grown up without him; and young sailor Homer Parrish (Harold Russell), tormented by the loss of his hands.
