The No. 1 LSU Tigers defeated the Clemson Tigers 42-25, in the CFP National Championship game played Monday, January 13, 2020, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. LSU quarterback and Heisman winner, Joe Burrow, finished his national championship game recordsetting performance with 463 yards on 31-of-49 passing, and six touchdowns (five passing). Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, LSU s 2019 Biletnikoff Award winner, had nine catches for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Clemson, who was led in rushing by Travis Etienne, had a 17-7 lead in the second quarter before Burrow started to heat up. LSU led 28-17 at half. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence had flashes of brilliance, but couldn't match match Burrow in the second half. In his post-game remarks, LSU head coach, Ed Orgeron, said, . . . you've got to give the credit to the football team. They've been working for one year. They deserve this day.
