Storyline: Our Reviewer's Take

Ranking:

Korn is the Grammy-winning Alternative Metal band that formed in 1993. They've been rocking audiences with their unique style of music ever since. Their debut album, self-titled Korn (1994), met with mild success, but it wasn’t until Follow the Leader in 1998 that the band met with mainstream success, peaking at number one on the Billboard 200. Since then the band has been highly successful in gaining worldwide notoriety with eight official releases achieving Platinum or Multi-Platinum status, and one certified Gold. Korn currently has charted with 28 of their singles and have earned two Grammy Awards for the songs "Freak on a Leash" and "Here to Stay." In total, the band has sold 19 million albums in the U.S. and 35 million worldwide.

On this Blu-ray, Korn exhibits their latest album, The Path Of Totality, which blends their unique form of Alternative Metal with Electronic and Dubstep music. Korn collaborated with a handful of famous Electronic and Dubstep artists including Skrillex, Noisia, Excision, Kill the Noise, Downlink, 12th Planet, Flinch, and Feed Me.

Taking place in the legendary Hollywood Palladium, the show begins with a dazzling audiovisual spectacle before leading into Korn’s first song of their set, "Get Up!" featuring Skrillex playing the guitar on stage as well. As the show progresses, other DJs that have helped collaborate on the album appear as well such as Noisia who helped produce "Kill Mercy Within" and "Narcisstic Cannibal" with Kill the Noise. Korn not only plays their new material but also goes back to their roots. playing classics such as "Freak on a Leash," "Falling Away From Me," and their cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall." Old and new fans of Korn’s music will enjoy the set with the strong balance of their classicspresented alongside music from their new album. However, unless you’re a fan of Metal, Dubstep, Electronic, and Korn in general, you’re probably not going to be much into this Blu-ray release.

Presented with a 1080p/AVC MPEG 4 transfer, this Blu-ray looks very good.

Viewers will quickly appreciate the clear, colorful quality of this concert presentation. The shots of the band are crisp. The highly detailed shots of the audience allow you to feel as if you’re immersed in the show while sitting on your couch. The on-going audio visuals throughout the live performance add to the atmosphere of the show and provide a nice visual experience for you at home.

This is a great looking concert BLu-ray.

Audio Review

Ranking:

You would certainly hope the audio would resopnate, and it does!

This concert Blu-ray delivers the audio goods. Each vocal and beat is superbly showcased, making it aurally extensive and giving you everything you would want or need. Not only is the quality of the performance presented beautifully here, but the murmur of the crowd is just audible enough, creating the atmosphere you want in a live performance.

The audio is even better than the video. A real treat.

Special Features

Ranking:

This Blu-ray is not only accompanied by a CD which allows you to listen to the live performance without watching the disc, but there are also some interesting interviews. You can hear Jonathan Davis, James (Munky) Shaffer, Fieldy, Ray Luzier, and Zachary Baird speak of the inspirations for The Path Of Totality as well as an inside look as to how the current tour is going, plus some small but interesting personal tidbits from the band members and DJs. The album/Blu-ray/DVD cover artist, ROBOTO, is also featured in the interviews as well.

This Blu-ray of 'The Path Of Totality Tour: Live At The Hollywood Palladium' not only gives fans of Korn a great live performance but a good inside-look at the bands' thoughts and views on their music and their tour. If you're a Korn fan, you don't want to miss this Blu-ray!. However, as this is only a concert video and nothing more, if you have no interest in ever seeing Korn live, you won’t probably won't be all that interested in this release. Recommended for fans.
