Plot Synopsis: A sumptuous CinemaScope epic based on the best-selling historical novel by Annemarie Selinko, Désirée (1954) stars the greatest actor of his generation, Marlon Brando, as the greatest military strategist in history, the enigmatic Romantic-era figure, Napoleon Bonaparte. Through the eyes of his first and lasting love, Désirée Clary (Jean Simmons), the film traces Napoleon’s dramatic journey from ambitious but idealistic hero of the French Revolution to despotic Emperor of France—and potential ruler of all Europe. Directed by Henry Koster (The Robe), with superb widescreen cinematography by Milton Krasner and a sweepingly romantic score from Alex North (available here as an isolated track).
