Plot Synopsis:
A gorgeously accoutered movie musical, My Gal Sal (1942) is a biopic of Gay Nineties-era songwriter Paul Dresser (nicely played by Victor Mature), based on a biographical essay by his brother, the novelist Theodore Dreiser. The ever-lovely Rita Hayworth is the eponymous Sal, a stage star who helps Dresser to become the toast of Tin Pan Alley. The great Hermes Pan provides the choreography; songs are by Dresser and Fox staff songwriters Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger.
