The Lego Ninjago Movie

This is the third film in the LEGO movie franchise called The LEGO Ninjago Movie made by a collection of fifteen people. Even though the film has some funny moments for all ages alike and a good message, as well as some well timed action sequences, the overall charisma and wit is a bit more stale than of the previous LEGO films. Still, the movie is a welcome addition to the franchise.

In the town of Ninjago a group of teenagers secretly moonlight as a Power Rangers type of team that takes out the bad guys from destroying the city, while trying to find their inner selves in the midst of the chaos.

Vital Disc Stats: The Blu-ray

The Lego Ninjago Movie comes with a 50GB Blu-ray Disc and a DVD copy of the film. There is an insert for the digital download code as well as some LEGO promos. The discs are housed in a hard, blue plastic case with a cardboard sleeve. 

The LEGO Ninjago Movie builds a great 1080p HD transfer and is presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. 

Colors are striking and bold in every scene with tons of bright primaries boasting through every second of screen time. There is so much color in each sequence that you can easily see at least a million colors in one shot. The yellow faces are bright, while the red eyes of Lord Garmadon are piercing red. The green plastic trees in the background as well as the deep blue skies and plastic water looks amazing here. The black levels of Garmadon's outfit as well as the nighttime sequences are deep and inky and very distinguishable. The skin tones on the live-action actors are also natural. The detail is sharp and vivid in most sequences as well.

Closeups reveal the tiny plastic bubbles on the LEGO heads as well as some slight scuff marks. On the 4K UHD video with HDR10 though, these tiny details are more easily visible in each scene. Heavier action sequences can look a little soft when explosions happen and the fake smoke and fake plastic water waves come through the air.  Some of the bigger explosions can be pixelated, but it's not a big problem. There are no issues with any banding or aliasing either, leaving this 1080p HD transfer with great marks.

This Blu-ray comes with the same Dolby Atmos track that is found on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. An excellent mix, overhead speakers deliver all of the laser blasts, explosions, and other zany sound effects to create this immersive and chaotic atmosphere. This is a fantastic audio track.

Audio Commentary - There are a total of 13 people on this commentary track, none of which are the actors or writers. They all provide some information on working on the film and the history of Ninjago, but there are too many people chiming in and it gets too chaotic. 

Team Supreme: Building Ninjago (HD, 9 Mins.) - Some crew interviews that talk about the sets, locations, characters, and the cast of the film. This is basically an EPK piece that focuses on production and voice work.

Rumble in the Bricks (HD, 6 Mins.) - A cool supplement that looks at the choreography work done in the film where Jackie Chan had some big influence. 

Rebrick Contest Winners (HD, 5 Mins.) - Some LEGO shorts from fan-made films.

Mini-Movies (HD, 10 Mins.) - Three extra Ninjago themed short films.

LEGO Ninjago TV Series Sneak Peak (HD, 11 Mins.) - A long promo for the TV show.

Music Videos (HD, 7 Mins.) - There are four short music videos from the film here.

Deleted Scenes (HD, 7 Mins.) - There are three deleted scenes here with optional commentary by one of the directors. None of them are that great.

Gimmie Some Outtakes! (HD, 5 Mins.) - Some cute outtakes from the film of flubbed lines, missed cues, and laughter.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie is an entertaining film for both kids and adults alike. The action sequences and comedic moments are non-stop that combine with a simple message. It's not on par with the previous films in the LEGO movie realm, but is still commendable. The 1080p HD transfer looks great with some slight softness in the heavier action sequences and the Dolby Atmos track is phenomenal. The extras are plentiful, but will mostly entertain the young ones. This one comes Recommended!
