Gerard Depardieu plays a priest suffering a crisis of faith in this award-winning religious drama directed by Maurice Pialat. Unsure about his suitability for the priesthood, French priest Father Donissan (Depardieu) encounters 16-year-old Mouchette (Sandrine Bonnaire) who is pregnant to married local nobleman Cadignan (Alain Artur). When Cadignan refuses to leave his wife for her, Mouchette, in a fit of rage, shoots him dead.
