The Summer Night Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is the world's biggest annual classical open-air concert that takes place in the magical setting of the Schönbrunn Palace Baroque park in Vienna (Concert date: June 16, 2022).
After two years, the concert will now take place as usual again with a full audience and open to public . "This year we have chosen a European musical program that emphasizes our common European musical heritage with its diverse facets and rich musical traditions. In consultation with Maestro Nelsons, a composition by the contemporary Latvian composer Arturs Maskats will be performed for the first time, as well as a work of Mykola Lysenko, a prominent individual in the musical history of Ukraine"- Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic.
The program further includes musical favorites from Beethoven and Rossini to Smetana and Dvorák. The soloist on the evening's program will be the French cellist Gautier Capuçon, who will perform Camille Saint-Säens' Concerto for Violoncello No. 1, op. 33. Maestro Andris Nelsons and soloist Gautier Capuçon will have their summer night concert premieres.
