Ol' Man Amos doesn't get along with his neighbors the Brown family, a bunch of "thieving, welfare collection vagrants". When Amos schemes to get them kicked off their land, the Browns need to make money fast and come up with a plan to win a contest for "Watermelon Juice Afro Sheen", with an award of $10,000 to whoever can find the juiciest, sweetest watermelon in the country.
