'The Big Heat' Dated and Detailed for Blu-ray

Fritz Lang's classic 1953 crime drama will arrest Blu-ray in May.

In another recent press release, Twilight Time is preparing 'The Big Heat' for Blu-ray on May 8.

The film, which currently holds an impressive 8.0 rating on IMDb.com, stars Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame, Jocelyn Brando, Alexander Scourby, Jeanette Nolan, and Lee Marvin, and features a score composed by Arthur Morton and Henry Vars.

The Blu-ray is limited to 3000 copies and will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono soundtrack, and supplements include Isolated score track and original theatrical trailer.

The disc is available here from Screen Archives Entertainment for $29.95.

Another adaptation of the Jules Verne classic is coming to Blu-ray in May.

In a recent press release, Twilight Time has slated the 1959 adventure film 'Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959)' for Blu-ray on May 8.

The film directed by Henry Levin stars Pat Boone, James Mason, Arlene Dahl, Diane Baker, and Thayer David and features a score composed by Bernard Herrmann.

The Blu-ray is limited to 3000 copies and will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 4.0 soundtrack, and supplements include Isolated score track and original theatrical trailer.

The disc is available here from Screen Archives Entertainment for $29.95.

Delmar Daves' 1954 epic heads to Blu-ray's arena in March.

In their latest press release, Twilight Time has revealed 'Demetrius and the Gladiators' is coming to Blu-ray on March 13.

The thrilling sequel to 'The Robe' (1953), 'Demetrius and the Gladiators' (1954) follows the further adventures of the Christian slave Demetrius (Victor Mature), sentenced to servitude as a gladiator in the Roman arena. There, his faith is tested in to-the-death combat and by the wiles of the seductive Messalina (Susan Hayward)—all under the obsessive eye of the mad Emperor Caligula (Jay Robinson). Director Delmer Daves brings epic sweep to the tale, supported by the bravura score of Franz Waxman (available here as an isolated track).

The Blu-ray will be limited to 3000 copies and will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 4.0 soundtrack, and supplements include an isolated score track and liner notes by Julie Kirgo.

The 1975 duster will blow into Blu-ray's town next month.

In a recent press release, Twilight Time has slated 'Bite the Bullet' for Blu-ray on March 13.

In 'Bite the Bullet' (1975), writer/director Richard Brooks ('The Professionals') gives us a Western on a grand scale, focusing on a 700-mile horse race across the bleakly beautiful landscape of the American Southwest. Entrants battling desert and mountain, freezing cold and blistering heat—not to mention their own inner demons—include a former Rough Rider (Gene Hackman); his old comrade-in-arms, now a gambler (James Coburn); a feisty onetime prostitute (Candice Bergen); a weary saddle tramp (Ben Johnson); a wealthy English toff (Ian Bannen); and an arrogant kid (Jan-Michael Vincent) looking to make his reputation. Featuring a score by the one and only Alex North (available here as an isolated track).

'Pal Joey (1957)' Announced for Blu-ray

The 1957 musical will be crooning on a limited edition Blu-ray this February.

In a recent press release, Twilight Time has set 'Pal Joey' for Blu-ray on February 14.

Frank Sinatra stars as John O’Hara’s caddish crooner in this 1957 film version of the O’Hara/Rodgers and Hart musical, 'Pal Joey.' A fresh—very fresh—arrival on the San Francisco nightclub scene, the amoral and ambitious Joey soon finds himself entangled with two “mice”: the rapacious stripper-turned-society dame Vera (Rita Hayworth) and the good-girl chorine Linda (Kim Novak). Handsomely directed by George Sidney, the film features a double handful of Rodgers and Hart’s greatest tunes, including “Zip,” “My Funny Valentine,” “The Lady Is a Tramp,” and “I Could Write a Book.”

Blu-ray will be heading to the Okefenokee Swamp in February.

In another recent press release, Twilight Time has slated the 1941 film 'Swamp Water' for Blu-ray on February 14.

Pantheon director Jean Renoir’s first American film, an adaptation by Dudley Nichols ('Stagecoach,' 'The Informer') of Vereen Bell’s best-selling novel set against the mysterious backdrop of Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, weaves the tale of a young man (Dana Andrews) who ventures into the swamp’s taboo territory. There he forms a tenuous partnership with a half-wild fugitive (Walter Brennan), the victim of a miscarriage of justice. Also starring Walter Huston and Anne Baxter, and featuring a brooding score by David Buttolph, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.

Two more limited edition Blu-ray releases are coming from Twilight Time in mid-January.

In a recent press release, Twilight Time has set 'Picnic (1955)' and 'The Roots of Heaven (1958)' for Blu-ray on January 17.

'Picnic' is director Joshua Logan’s superb adaptation of William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play focuses on a golden-boy-turned-drifter (William Holden) whose unexpected arrival in a small Kansas town ignites explosive passions in a discontented beauty queen (Kim Novak), a waspish schoolteacher (Rosalind Russell), an insecure bookworm (Susan Strasberg), and an ambitious mother (Betty Field). Featuring stunning ‘Scope cinematography by James Wong Howe and George Duning’s memorable romantic score (available on this release as an isolated track).

John Huston’s 'The Roots of Heaven' is an adventure-packed adaptation of Romain Gary’s Prix Goncourt-winning novel that takes a prescient look at an early eco-warrior (Trevor Howard) waging a battle to preserve the elephant herds of French Equatorial Africa. With the colonial government and bloodthirsty ivory hunters aligned against him, he joins forces with a motley band of rebels—including a jovial but perpetually hammered ex-military man (Errol Flynn) and a world-weary bar girl (Juliette Greco)—in a courageous effort to save the last wild things of this Earth.

The Blu-rays are each limited to 3000 copies and feature 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks (5.1 on 'Picnic' and 2.0 on 'The Roots of Heaven'), and supplements include isolated score tracks (both releases) and original theatrical trailer ('Picnic').

Guillermin's spellbinding 1965 black-and-white drama is coming to Blu-ray next month.

In an early announcement to retailers, Twilight Time set 'Rapture' for Blu-ray on December 13.

'Rapture' (1965) is a dark fairy tale: set against the rugged beauty of the Brittany seacoast, it tells the story of a young girl (Patricia Gozzi) whose lonely isolation under the watchful eye of her stern and bitter father (Melvyn Douglas) is abruptly shattered by the arrival of a seductive fugitive from the law (Dean Stockwell). With stunning CinemaScope images from director John Guillermin and cinematographer Marcel Grignon, this tumultuous coming-of-age fable also features a deliriously romantic score by Georges Delerue, available here as an isolated track.

The region-free Blu-ray is limited to 3000 copies and features 1080p video, mono soundtrack, and supplements include an isolated score track and extensive Julie Kirgo liner notes.

Jean Renoir's 1941 drama is in the works for Blu-ray next year.

In a recent announcement, Twilight Time is preparing 'Swamp Water' starring Walter Brennan, Walter Huston and Anne Baxter for Blu-ray sometime in February.

When a hunter happens upon a fugitive and his daughter living in a Georgia swamp, he falls in love with the girl and persuades the fugitive to return to town.

There's still no word on specs, supplements, suggested list price, or an exact release date yet.

The limited-edition release of the Ray Harryhausen classic is now on the way from Twilight Time.

As previously reported, Twilight Time has set 'Mysterious Island' for Blu-ray on November 8, and now discs are being shipped to customers.

During the US Civil War, Union POWs escape in a balloon and end up stranded on a South Pacific island, inhabited by giant plants and animals. They must use their ingenuity to survive the dangers, and to devise a way to return home. Sequel to '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.'

The region-free Blu-ray is limited to 3000 copies and features 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (plus original mono) soundtracks, and supplements include: 8-Page Booklet, Isolated Score Track (2.0 Stereo), Original Theatrical Trailer, and Trailer TV Spot #1.
