Sony BMG has announced a street date and specs for the John Mayer concert film 'Where the Light Is,' which will hit Blu-ray this July with a host of next-gen exclusives.

As previously reported, Sony had revealed plans to bring a previously-untitled John Mayer concert (recorded live at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre in December 2007) to Blu-ray sometime later this year, but stopped short of issuing any further details or even a street date.

Now the distributor has issued the full media announcement for 'John Mayer: Where the Light Is,' which will hit Blu-ray on July 1 (day-and-date with the DVD) as one of Sony's most advanced next-gen releases yet.

Spanning 22 tracks, 'Where the Light Is' features three sets: an acoustic performance, a rare set with the John Mayer Trio (John Mayer, Steve Jordan, and Pino Palladino), as well as a set featuring Mayer’s full-band.

Captured with eight cameras and shot on Super35 film, the Blu-ray will feature 1080p/24fps video, plus audio options in PCM 2.0 Stereo (98kHz/24-bit) and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround (96kHz/24-bit).

Exclusive to the BLu-ray is a picture-in-picture "experience" with musicians Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino (Bonus View enabled), as well as BD-Live content including a backstage performance of "Belief."

Featured on both the Blu-ray and DVD is a bonus "Mulholland Drive" acoustic performance.

Retail for the Blu-ray has been set at $29.95.

You'll find specs for 'John Mayer: Where the Light Is' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under July 1.

'Justin Timberlake: Live at Madison Square Garden' Gets Wide Blu-ray Release (UPDATED)

Ending an exclusive run at Best Buy stores, Sony BMG says the 'Justin Timberlake: Live at Madison Square Garden' Blu-ray is now widely available for purchase at numerous retail locations.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that 'Justin Timberlake: Live at Madison Square Garden' was slated for wide release in late April. In fact it is now available at various retail outlets, including Amazon.com. We regret the error, and have corrected the text below.

Sony first released the "SexyBack" singer's high-def debut back in January as a Best Buy exclusive, marking the first such retailer exclusive for the format.

Now, fans who missed out the first time can get 'Live at Madison Square Garden' via traditional distribution channels.

Disc details remain identical to the original exclusive release. Among the over 80 minutes of bonus material is a track-by-track audio commentary by Timberlake, expanded pre-show and extended backstage footage, the original full-length opening (not seen in the original HBO broadcast), "under the stage" footage shot while the concert was taking place, a remixed video version of "SexyBack," and additional interview footage.

Tech specs for the Blu-ray boast 1080p video (1.78:1) and uncompressed PCM audio in both 5.1 and 2.0 configurations.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $29.98 (a $5 discount over the Best Buy-exclusive MSRP).

Sony BMG Bumps 'Beyonce Experience' Blu-ray

Tags: Street Date Changes, Music on High-Def, Sony BMG (all tags)

Only days before it was due in stores, Sony BMG has announced an indefinite delay for the planned late-February Blu-ray bow of 'The Beyonce Experience.'

As we first reported early last month, Sony BMG had planned to bring the "Irreplaceable" singer's first solo high-def release 'The Beyonce Experience - Live at Madison Square Garden' to Blu-ray on February 26 (the title had previously been released on standard DVD back in November).

The distributor now says that 'The Beyonce Experience' has been yanked from its schedule due to "last-minute production delays." Although they stopped short of issuing a new street date, a company spokesperson tells us that the release is now on track for a re-announce "sometime later this year."

At press time, there were no changes to the disc's previously announced specs, which were set to include 1080i video and uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround audio. We'll keep you posted of any future updates or additions.

In light of the delay, we've moved 'The Beyonce Experience' to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule. Stay tuned.

The wait is over, Celine Dion fans: Sony BMG has announced a February arrival for the songstress' long-awaited Blu-ray concert extravaganza 'Live in Las Vegas.'

As we first reported back in October, Sony originally announced 'Celine Dion: A New Day... Live in Las Vegas' for a December 11 Blu-ray debut, day-and-date with the standard DVD and only days before the singer was scheduled to make her final bow at Caesar's Palace. But in a last-minute delay, Sony yanked the Blu-ray version without explanation, offering no new date.

Now the distributor has finally given the greenlight for Celine's high-def debut, setting a new date of February 5 for 'A New Day.'

Confirmed specs for the release include a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer and uncompressed PCM 5.1 and 2.0 stereo audio.

Extras will mirror the standard-def version, and include a behind-the-scenes documentary, "Tribute to the Fans" featurette, and additional interviews with the creative team behind 'A New Day.'

Retail for the Blu-ray remains set at $34.98.

You'll find disc details for 'Celine Dion: A New Day... Live in Las Vegas' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under its new date of February 5.

Fans hoping to spend the holidays with Celine Dion in high-def are going to have to wait for 'A New Day,' as Sony BMG has bumped the planned December Blu-ray release of her live Vegas spectacular til next year.

As originally reported back in October, 'Celine Dion: A New Day... Live in Las Vegas' was first announced for a December 11 Blu-ray release, day-and-date with the standard-def DVD. The release looked to be quite spectacular, with a splashy press release touting a "deluxe high-definition DVD" package featuring a making-of documentary, additional tracks, and even more extensive bonus features

Unfortunately for fans of the multi-octave Canadian songstress, Sony BMG has confirmed earlier retailer reports that although the DVD release of 'A New Day' remains on schedule, the Blu-ray version has been yanked.

However, a studio rep told High-Def Digest that the title has not been permanently cancelled, and that Sony BMG is currently eyeing a new date for Celine's high-def debut "sometime in 2008."

As always, we'll keep you posted as soon as the title has been officially rescheduled. In the meantime, we've moved 'A New Day' to the "Release Dates Pending" section of our Blu-ray Release Schedule. Stay tuned...

On December 15th, Celine will take her final bow on the Colosseum stage at Caesars Palace, capping a sell-out five-year run of her Cirque du Soleil-inspired, multi-octave circus of song and dance "A New Day..." Sony BMG will now bring the show home for the first time only a few days earlier, debuting day-and-date Blu-ray and standard-def DVD versions on December 11.

"These past five years have been a wonderful experience for me," said Dion in a press release. "To perform every night with such an amazing cast of dancers and musicians on this beautiful show created by Franco Dragone, has been a dream come true."

Sony has not yet released tech specs nor supplement details for 'A New Day...', but the show was captured entirely with multiple HD cameras, so we certainly expect it to look and sound great. We'll keep you posted.
