'Transformers Prime: Season One' Blu-ray Detailed
Fri Jan 27, 2012 at 09:00 AM ETTags: Shout Factory, Disc Announcements (all tags)
The first season of the hit animated series which will "roll out" on Blu-ray this March has now been fully detailed.
As previously reported, Shout Factory will release 'Transformers Prime: Season One' on Blu-ray on March 6.
From Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writing team behind the megablockbuster Transformers feature films, and executive producer Jeff Kline comes an all-new series of sophisticated adventures for the Autobots, Decepticons and their human allies that boasts stellar computer animation and an impressive voice cast including Adam Baldwin ('Chuck'), Clancy Brown ('Lost'), Jeffrey Combs ('Re-Animator'), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ('G.I. JOE: Retaliation'), John Noble ('Fringe'), Tony Todd ('Final Destination') and Gina Torres ('Firefly').
'Transformers Prime' deepens the epic mythology of both the Autobots and Decepticons, while starting fresh for a new generation of fans. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Arcee, Ratchet, Bulkhead, and many others are back to "roll out" against Megatron's latest attempt to conquer Earth. And Megatron proves to be more powerful than ever, having acquired a rare element that allows him mastery over life itself. 'Team Prime' may be few against the Decepticon hordes, but they find increased strength via bonds forged with three human teenagers. Make no mistake, 'Transformers Prime' delivers heavy metal action, and nail-biting suspense - but it also takes the human drama to levels as yet unseen by the franchise.
The 4-disc set will feature all 26 episodes with Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks and supplements include: original "making of" special, audio commentaries, featurettes, animatics, and more! -- Including a 96-page Transformers: Prime prequel graphic novel by IDW Publishing!

'The Grateful Dead Movie' Announced for Blu-ray
Fri Sep 09, 2011 at 02:30 PM ETTags: Shout Factory, Disc Announcements (all tags)
'The Grateful Dead Movie' will see its first-ever Blu-ray release on November 1.
Co-directed by Jerry Garcia, 'The Grateful Dead Movie' was originally released in 1977, and captures performances from five October 1974 shows at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. In an essay accompanying the Blu-ray, Dennis McNally, Grateful Dead biographer and the former publicist for the band, writes “when the Dead concluded that their epic achievement in sound design, the Wall of Sound, was a fabulous albatross threatening to destroy them, and that a substantial break would follow five mid-October 1974 shows at Winterland, and Who Knew?—maybe these really were The Last Shows—it was the most logical thing in the world for Jerry to hire a film crew and have a movie to make during the hiatus in Dead touring. Like most Dead projects, 'The Grateful Dead Movie' was substantially improvised and required massive amounts of really peculiar synchronicity to work—and somehow came out great in the end.”
Disc 1 of 'The Grateful Dead Movie' features the film in its entirety on Blu-ray, transferred from the original 35mm film negative in High Definition and presented in 1.78:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The performances include Dead classics such as “Truckin’,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Casey Jones.”
Disc 2 is a DVD containing more than 95 minutes of bonus concert footage, including “Uncle John’s Band,” “Sugaree,” “The Other One‚” “Spanish Jam‚” “Mind Left Body Jam‚” “Scarlet Begonias,” “China Cat Sunflower‚” “I Know You Rider,” “Dark Star,” and “Weather Report Suite.” Also included in the bonus features are the option for visible lyrics, a feature-length commentary with supervising editor Susan Crutcher and film editor John Nutt, the documentary films “A Look Back,” “Making of the Animated Sequence,” and “Making of the DVD,” the television commercial for the Mars Hotel album from 1974, multicamera and multitrack audio demonstrations, and an extensive photo gallery of production notes, photos, film stills and other historical items from the Movie’s production.
Additionally, viewers can choose which sound mix they want, including a 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio presentation of the original theatrical audio mix, a DTS 5.1 audio mix, mixed from the master multitrack tapes, or the PCM 2.0 audio mix, all from the master multitrack tapes. The bonus songs were transferred from the 16mm camera-original film negative, with audio from the master multitrack tapes offered in both a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio mix or Dolby Digital 2.0 audio mix.
The legendary Grateful Dead Movie is known for its remarkably intimate look at the band and the Deadhead scene of the time. Now fans can enjoy the film in high definition as never before.
Fans who preorder 'The Grateful Dead Movie' directly from Shout! Factory will receive an exclusive bumper sticker with their order, while supplies last. Additionally, it will ship on October 18, two weeks before being available in stores. For more info, visit: www.shoutfactorystore.com/prod.aspx?pfid=5257509.
'The Grateful Dead Movie' is the first in a line of Grateful Dead films slated for release by Shout! Factory in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment. Future releases will include The Closing Of Winterland, Dead Ahead, Truckin’ Up To Buffalo, Ticket To New Year’s, Downhill From Here, View From The Vault, View From The Vault Vol. 2, View From The Vault Vol. 3, View From The Vault Vol. 4 and So Far, a 1987 film that has previously only been available on VHS and laserdisc.

'Dead Cert' Blu-ray Announced
Mon Aug 01, 2011 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Shout Factory, Disc Announcements (all tags)
Get ready for a bloodthirsty mix of 'From Dusk Till Dawn' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' on Blu-ray this September.
In an early announcement to retailers, Shout Factory will release 'Dead Cert' on Blu-ray on September 27.
Jam-packed with all the ingredients of both a vampire flick and a gangster film -- creepy monsters, scantily-clad women, tough-talking wise guys, gratuitous bloodshed and a seemingly crazy vampire hunter, 'Dead Cert' features a star-studded cast of familiar British acting talent including Craig Fairbrass ('The Bank Job'), Dexter Fletcher ('Kick-Ass'), Billy Murray ('Rise Of The Footsoldier'), Lisa McAllister ('Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes'), Steven Berkoff ('The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'), Dave Legeno ('Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince'), Jason Flemying ('X-Men: First Class') and Danny Dyer ('Dead Man Running').
Produced by horror specialists Black and Blue Films and directed by Steve Lawson, 'Dead Cert' marks a welcome return to the fun, almost-traditional British horror filmmaking style that affectionately evokes the spirit of the contemporary-set movies of Amicus and Hammer -- particularly the latter’s 'Dracula A.D. 1972' and The Satanic Rites of Dracula.'
'Dead Cert' is a bloodsucking feast with more bite than most and one that horror fans will definitely enjoy sinking their teeth into.
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, an English 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include an audio commentary, making of featurette, and the theatrical trailer.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $24.99.

'Battle Beyond the Stars' Blu-ray Detailed
Fri May 06, 2011 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Shout Factory (all tags)
The out-of-this-world Roger Corman Cult Classic coming to Blu-ray this July has been fully detailed.
As previously reported, Shout Factory says 'Battle Beyond the Stars' is planned for Blu-ray on July 12.
A long time ago, in a studio far far away (actually 1980 in Venice, Calif.), Roger Corman gathered together a fledgling team of filmmakers to make one of the best low-budget science fiction films of all time, 'Battle Beyond the Stars,' a space opera that managed to playfully borrow from 'Star Wars and 'The Magnificent Seven, to come up with an enduring cult classic.
Long out of print, 'Battle Beyond the Stars' has been meticulously restored with a new anamorphic widescreen transfer (1.85:1) from the internegative, boasting a new 5.1 DTS Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray, and featuring a galaxy of extras, including commentary by writer John Sayles and Roger Corman; a new interview with actor Richard Thomas; a behind-the-scenes technical featurette and much more.
"This was the most expensive production I had financed. I always liked science fiction, and my idea was to do something of the feeling of Star Wars. What I came up with was The Seven Samurai in Outer Space." -- Roger Corman
Corman brought together some extremely talented people -- who went on to bigger and better things -- to make 'Battle Beyond the Stars.' John Sayles ('Eight Men Out,' 'Lone Star') wrote the script, his third for Corman after 'Piranha' and 'The Lady in Red;' James Cameron, who went on, of course, to be king of the world with 'Titanic' and then king of the universe with 'Avatar,' handled the art direction and special effects; Academy Award®–winning composer James Horner ('Titanic,' 'Avatar') wrote the score, which he recycled two years later for 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.' Also on hand as production manager was Gale Anne Hurd, who went on to produce 'The Terminator' with Cameron as well as 'The Incredible Hulk' and AMC's 'The Walking Dead.'
Special Note: Fans who pre-order Roger Corman’s Cult Classics: Battle Beyond the Stars 30th Anniversary Special Edition from ShoutFactoryStore.com will receive an iron-on of the original Battle Beyond the Stars theatrical key art as a gift-with-purchase.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $26.97.
