'National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus ' Blu-ray Announced
Thu Jan 26, 2012 at 01:00 PM ETTags: Disc Announcements, Image Entertainment (all tags)
The outrageous sword and sandal spoof charges onto Blu-ray in March.
In a recent press announcement, Image Entertainment says they will release 'National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus' on Blu-ray on March 20.
'National Lampoon’s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus' is an epic comedy that’s as big and bold as its name, a movie with the courage and strength to spoof the sword and sandal genre with hilarious take-offs that skewer every gladiator cliché from '300' to 'Braveheart.' This is the wild and bawdy brand of humor that’s become synonymous with the National Lampoon brand in classic films like 'Animal House' and 'Vacation.'
'National Lampoon’s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus' is from the director of 'Revenge of the Nerds,' and it’s easily the most outrageous parody in years. Finally a film with more laughs than 'Gladiator,' hotter bods than 'Troy,' and army of more men than '300' – well, one more man! Horny King Looney of Troy (Rip Torn, 'Men in Black') sends slacker general Awesomest Maximus (Will Sasso, “Mad TV,” 'The Three Stooges') to maintain peace with rival King Erotic of Greece. But when Prince Orlando, who's more into fashion than fighting, steals the King's wife Ellen (Sophie Monk, 'Date Movie') to be his BFF, it's war! Will Awesomest live up to his godly destiny? Can he defeat the mighty warrior Testiclees (Ian Ziering, “Beverly Hills 90210”)?
Can he light a fire under his gold-digging wife Hotessa (Kristanna Loken, 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines')? The only thing that can be predicted is that this is one savagely funny farce from the people know how to throw a toga party!
Co-starring Tony Cox ('Bad Santa'), Deon Richmond ('Not Another Teen Movie,' 'Hatchet') and Russell Peters ('New Year’s Eve'), with rapper Ludacris as narrator, a bevy of beautiful slave girls and a giant “Trojan Penis” 'National Lampoon’s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus' is one of the most unforgettable comedies you’ll see this year - one might even say, it’s the most awesomest comedy of the year!
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and no supplements seem to be included with this release.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.97.

'Beneath the Darkness' Blu-ray Announced
Tue Jan 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM ETTags: Image Entertainment, Disc Announcements (all tags)
The thriller directed by Martin Guigui emerges from the shadows in February.
In a recent press announcement, Image Entertainment will release 'Beneath the Darkness' on Blu-ray on February 28.
The rural bliss of small town life has been celebrated as part of the American dream, but sometimes a small town is the perfect place to hide one’s secrets, one’s mistakes, one’s sins. And once discovered, it doesn’t take long for the American dream to become the American nightmare. The small-town shocker stars Golden Globe™ nominee Dennis Quaid in a rare villainous turn and coming off a recent national theatrical release, this gripping psychological thriller entwines cold-blooded murder, sinister secrets and modern hauntings on Maple Street.
In the film Quaid plays Ely, the well-respected mortician of rustic Smithville Texas, where he was once a heralded high school football star. Among the kids, however, he is legendary for a more sinister reason -- rumors that his house is haunted. The truth is, this pillar of the community is actually a flesh-and-blood monster who buries his victims alive; a sociopath who befriends adults and police while openly flaunting his murderous intentions to the youths. Beware Ely’s charming smile – it may be the last thing you see, looking up from your freshly dug grave...
The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include behind-the-scenes featurette and original theatrical trailer.
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.97.
