Two New 3-D Ready Blu-ray Players From Denon

Both players feature YouTube and Netflix connectivity as well as DLNA 1.5 compliance.

Denon has a pair of new Blu-ray players that will be hitting shelves in the next few months. They were designed to be universal players, which means they can play back "virtually all 5-inch silver discs," as Denon's press release puts it.

The DBP-1611UD (June) and DBP-2011UDCI (August) are marketed as 3-D ready players, but they won't handle three dimensional video right out of the box. You won't have long to wait, since Denon has a 3-D firmware update slated for this fall.

Both players offer DNLA compliance, so streaming video from your PC should be nice and easy. You can also stream from YouTube and Netflix, but since Denon doesn't mention WiFi, you can expect to plug these in.

The DBP-2011UDCI separates itself from the 1161UD when it comes to Blu-ray playback though. Though the $399 1161UD does offer HDMI v1.4a outputs and 36-Bit Deep Color, it doesn't have the Anchor Bay decoding engine that the $799 2011UDCI has. The higher-end model also sports the new Burr-Brown 32-Bit Audio DACs.

Denon’s Budget Concious Blu-ray Player

With the announcement of the DBP-1610, Denon has reached their lowest price point yet. The most economical of Denon’s Blu-ray players, the new addition will retail for $499.

While certainly scaled down from Denon’s typical line of BD players, the DBP-1610 is still a very capable player. The DBP-1610 does what high end Blu-ray players should do. It supports high definition audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio. It features BD-Live capability. It supports DiVX, upscales standard DVDs up to 1080p, and offers Deep Color and x.v. Color support.

The DBP-1610 also has a few features not as commonly seen in the $500 range, such as support for oddball formats like Kodak Picture CD and Fuji Color CD, a 24-bit/192kHz audio converter and Pure Direct Mode. Particularly of interest, Pure Direct Mode lets you send a direct signal down the line to a receiver or other component with a better ability to scale the signal.

Denon Releases a New Universal Blu-ray Disc Player

Based on their flagship player, the Denon DBP-4010UDCI is a more affordable, but still impressive, Blu-ray player.

Nearly half the price of the flagship DVD-A1UDCI, Denon’s DBP-4010UDCI is a very capable Blu-ray player. Denon’s player offers Bit Stream Bypass to HDMI for Dolby Digital+, TrueHD 7.1, dts-HR, and dts-Master Audio 7.1, making it fairly impressive in the audio department.

From a video perspective, the 4010 features Anchor Bay VRS processing for HD signals and for upscaling to 1080p. The DENON LINK interface, and a new HDMI Clock Control help to eliminate jitters when using HDMI as the primary output for the system.

In addition to AVCHD and DivxHD playback, the 4010 features an Ethernet port for BD-Live support among other things. The Internet connectivity can be made usable for 3rd party controllers as well as for firmware updates and web surfing, and an SD card slot ensures ease of use for additional content.

The Denon DBP-4010UDCI will be available this October at an estimated retail price of $1,999.

Denon Announces Flagship DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray Player

Following weeks of rumors, Denon Electronics today announced that its DVD-3800BDCI Blu-ray player will hit stores this fall, including some of the most advanced features yet seen in a next-gen player.

Retailing for $1,999, Denon says the high-end DVD-3800BDCI will be the first Blu-ray player to hit the market with the Realta HQV video processor, which allows for advanced video clean-up of even the best high-def signals.

The deck also includes full 1080p output and decoding for all current high-resolution audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Lossless Master Audio and uncompressed PCM, with output up to 7.1 channels.

But perhaps most exciting for early adopters, the DVD-3800BDCI will be among the first Blu-ray players on the market to support BD-ROM Version 1.1, aka it will boast dual built-in audio/video decoders to take advantage of picture-in-picture content encoded on Blu-ray discs. That will allow the deck to play back In-Movie Experience-type features that have long been a mainstay on the rival HD DVD format. (Though there are currently no Blu-ray titles available that include picture-in-picture features, the major studios are expected to begin announcing discs with such content as players capable of accessing them begin to hit the market.)

Denon has not yet announced an exact street date for the DVD-3800BDCI outside of the fall timeframe. We'll keep you posted as further release information is unveiled.

Stay tuned!
