May is coming to a close and ushering in the heart of the summer movie season. Many of you might be outside enjoying the nice weather, but we here at The Bonus View are huddled over our computers, working to bring you the latest and greatest in all things high-def. Let's see what happened this week.

Josh's Week of Audio

Josh Zyber took a trip to California, and while he was there he took in a few different audio presentations from companies like Dolby and DTS. There are four articles up right now that discuss, in extreme detail, what it was like listening to the demonstrations of audio that a few of these companies are coming out with in the near future.

In Part 1, Josh visits Dolby and learns about 96k upsampling. Part 2 he visits Dolby to find out what Dolby Atmos sounds like. In Part 3 Josh heads on over the DTS and experiences what he calls a "game-changer in home theater audio." In Part 4 he visits the SRS Labs and gets to listen to what they call Multi-Dimensional Audio.

If you're at all interested in the ins and outs of home theater audio then you'll want to read each of these entries to find out exactly what you can expect from these companies in the near future.

TV Madness

This week in the tournament Jack Bauer took on Echo from 'Dollhouse' while Fox Mulder fought Seven of Nine. Check out the results and stay tuned for our Friday matchup, Raylan Givens versus Spartacus.

Blu-ray News

Check out what movies hit Blu-ray this week in our Blu-ray Highlights post. Tom Landy gives us the rundown on the new 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' steelbook that we can expect upon its Blu-ray release.

Theatrical News

This week sees the opening of another hopeful summer blockbuster, 'Men in Black 3.' Luke has seen it. Find out whether or not it was worth rehashing this old idea.

Aaron Peck discusses the latest movie posters that are hitting theaters near you in his latest edition of Posterizing.

TV Recaps

In case you've been missing out, you really should be reading our recaps of 'The Killing.' They're enjoyable, even if you haven't watched the show.

We also have recaps for shows like 'Game of Thrones,' 'Grimm,' and 'Fringe.'

Special Features

In our Weekend Roundtable we asked which board games should be made into movies next since we already have 'Battleship.' In the Mid-Week Poll we asked a very important question, "Do Spoilers Ruin Movies For You?" Let us know.

That's it for this week. We'll be back here next week. Same time. Same place. Until then, be safe and watch good movies.

What? You've been missing out on The Bonus View this week? If you have that means you've been missing our Hitchcock Blogathon that we started in hopes of raising some money for a new musical score and online streaming distribution for 'The White Shadow', an early silent film that young Mr. Hitchcock (then officially a writer and Assistant Director) used as a stepping stone to launch his own directorial career (you can donate here).

Hitchcock Blogathon

We have a ton of entries in the Blogathon, many of which will please even the most avid Hitchcock fans. Guest blogger John Carvill, from the UK-based pop culture web site Oomska.co.uk, wrote a great piece which he described as, "an unscientific analysis of the Blu-ray editions of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The 39 Steps’ & ‘North by Northwest’."

Other Hitchcock entries include a column about 'The Birds' by Steven Cohen, a look back at 'Topaz' by Adam Tyner, a 'Vertigo' walking tour by Josh Zyber, the story behind Hitchcock's blonde bombshells as well as his one-word titles, both by David Krauss, and a special edition of Posterizing by Aaron Peck where he lists his top ten favorite Hitchcock movie posters.

If you're a fan of the immortal director then you'll really want to take a gander at some of these articles. We're really proud here at The Bonus View to be honoring such a cinematic legend. We hope you enjoy.

TV Madness

We've entered the round of the final sixteen characters. The last matchup we did, before the Madness tournament took a little hiatus for Hitchcock Blogathon, was a fight between super-spy Michael Westen and vampire slayer extraordinaire, Buffy. Who do you think would win?

Theatrical News

Luke saw this weekend's movies so you don't have to. In case you wanted to know how bad 'What to Expect When You're Expecting,' and 'Battleship' are, you can read his reviews. He also reviewed 'The Dictator' in case you wanted to know the latest about Sacha Baron Cohen's scripted comedy future.

TV Recaps

We haven't had much time to get to television with our Hitchcock Blogathon taking over, but there was one recap posted this week by Aaron Peck about the latest episode of 'The Killing.' Even if you're not watching the show, keep up with the recaps. They're fun.

Special Features

Tom Landy went off to the Calgary Expo (a.k.a. Geek Paradise in Canada) this past week. He's posted a few Captain's Blog updates of his time at the Expo. Take a look at posts for Day 1 and Day 2 along with a post about Tom's emergency that had him heading to the hospital instead of back to the Expo.

Finally, we have the trusty weekly posts like the Weekend Roundtable where we asked what remake or reimagining should Tim Burton take on next and our Mid-Week Poll that focused on what you may think about gesture-controlled television sets.

That's it for this week. Stay tuned though. As always, we have a bunch of great stuff coming your way next week.

April is almost over and you know what that means… Summer Movie Season! Keep your browser keyed on The Bonus View in order to find out what Luke thinks about all the new blockbusters hitting the cinemas this summer.

Along with hotly anticipated movie reviews we'll also keep up with Blu-ray news, TV recaps, and home theater suggestions.

Blu-ray News

This week the Blu-ray Highlights post turned into quite the discussion forum. The subject at hand was Brad Bird's decision to keep the Blu-ray aspect ratio consistent throughout the movie, instead of using switching aspect ratios for the included IMAX footage. What do you think? Come on over and voice your opinion on that post or on the Mid-Week Poll where we asked you to vote on what you thought about this decision.

In case you missed it we have an awesome giveaway this week and today is the last day to enter. Head on over to this blog post and caption the picture in the comments below. Two copies of the BBC's 'Frozen Planet' will be given away to the best captions. Believe me when I say, you want this set.

In packaging news Tom covers the impending wave of Alliance steelbooks which will be available in June.

TV Madness

This week we ended the first round and now we're down to 32 TV characters who will battle it out starting next week to see who makes it to the round of 16.

On Wednesday, Clay Morrow narrowly edged Thomas Magnum and Captain Kirk crushed Robert McCall. On Monday, Clark Kent took out angry fireman Tommy Gavin while Bruce Banner defeated Nikita.

Theatrical News

There's only one big release this weekend. Come see what Luke thought about Disney Nature's new documentary 'Chimpanzee.'

In the Trailer Park, E takes a look at trailers for 'Neighborhood Watch' and 'Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.'

TV Recaps

This week we had recaps for 'The Killing,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Awake,' and 'Fringe.' Josh also covered the series premiere of HBO's new comedy 'Girls.'

Special Features

This week's Weekend Roundtable we discussed what movies could be set in space, with hilarious results. What movies do you think could easily be set in space? Let us know.

That's it for this week on The Bonus View. The next few weeks will no doubt be crazy with all the new summer movies coming out. Stay tuned to find out how they are.

Bonus View Digest - March 30, 2012

Where'd March go? This month has just flown by if you ask me. Even though time seems to be fast-forwarding on us, we were still able to crank out a lot of exciting posts this week. This week had a bit of everything. TV Madness is going steady as new characters punch their tickets to the next round. Check out everything you may have missed below.

TV Madness

This week featured some interesting matchups. We had a couple of lopsided matchups. Malcolm Reynolds easily took out Shane from 'The Walking Dead.' While Ben Linus outsmarted Christopher Chance.

Then we had the war of the world's most famous FBI agents. Fox Mulder went up against Dale Cooper. Mulder pulled out the win with much chagrin from the Cooper fans. In the other matchup, Buffy the Vampire Slayer easily defeated young Indiana Jones.

Today's matchup is another doozy. You get to pick who is going to win between 'Deadwood's Al Swearengen and 'Rome's Titus Pullo. After trying to figure out who will win in that matchup you have another hard choice in voting for either Detective Sonny Crockett or Jarod from 'The Pretender.'

Home Theater News

Josh took a look at after-the-fact 3D conversion gear, most specifically a new box called the 3D-Bee. Is this the 3D box for you? Check out what Josh has to say about it.

Theatrical News

This week Luke saw and reviewed quite a few movies which are opening today. Check out reviews for 'Mirror, Mirror,' 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,' and 'Wrath of the Titans.'

TV Recaps

'The Killing' starts its second season on Sunday. Aaron took a bit of time to write down his thoughts on the end of the first season and why he is mildly excited for the show's second season. What do you think? Will you be tuning it to see what happens? Take the poll.

Other recaps include 'Awake,' 'Fringe,' and two recaps of 'Alcatraz.'

Special Features

This week's Mid-Week Poll we asked how old your TV set is, while in The Weekend Roundtable we talked about crazy cinematic cross-overs and what it would be like to see them happen. Finally, don't forget to check out this week's Critical Mass. Luke and Aaron argue whether or not 'The Descendants' was really a great film. Luke liked it; Aaron didn't think it was worthy of all the hype it got. Make sure to take the poll and voice your opinion.

Thanks for joining us here on The Bonus View. Another month has sailed by, but it's been fun all the same.

Bonus View Digest - February 24, 2012

Well February sure flew by, didn't it? This has been a special week at The Bonus View. We've been gearing up for the Oscars, which will air this Sunday night, and once again, we'll be live-blogging them! We know we shouldn't care so much about them, but because we love movies we're drawn to them like bugs to a bug zapper.

If you're as excited as we are for Sunday or just want to have a good time with some fun people then you'll definitely need to check out our Live-Blog of the Oscars. We did this a few weeks ago with The Golden Globes and it's always a hit. It's a great way for us as writers to communicate, in real time, with our hilarious and witty readers. Even if you couldn't care less about who wins, it's still a good time. We'll have polls, pictures and best of all contests! During the Golden Globes Live-Blog we gave away a stack of free Blu-rays. Participating in these contests are the best possible odds you'll ever have on any online contest, trust us on that. We want as many people as possible to walk away with prizes. We're still not set on the prize structure of this week's live-blog, but we promise that you'll have great chances of winning.

Even if somehow you don't win, then you still came and had a good time talking about/making fun of the Oscars and their overly long telecast. Truthfully, it's the only way to enjoy this back-patting festival that the Academy puts on for themselves. Yet, there's something about it. Something that draws us in. We want to know who is going to win. Hopefully, it will validate our own personal choices of what was The Best in 2011. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

It's a good time. It really is. If nothing else, please come and chat and win some free Blu-rays.

The Oscars

This week was full of Oscar-related posts. In our gearing up for the telecast we have all kinds of articles that will keep you excited for the events on Sunday.

First, check out Aaron's predictions of who will win each of the major categories. First up was the Visual Categories, followed by the Sound Categories. After that Aaron tried to predict how the categories of Acting, Writing and Directing will all play out. A prediction post of the Best Picture Categories will be along soon, so don't miss it.

Our Mid-Week Poll was even about the Oscars. We asked you who you think will win the Best Picture Award and also who you think should win the Best Picture Award. The votes on both sides are overwhelmingly in favor of 'The Artist', do you agree? Please let us know in the poll.

Home Theater News

Josh showed us how he, an ardent collector of movies and their packaging, has finally given in to his space needs and reduced much of his collection to disc sleeves and a big decorative trunk. Are your movies beginning to overtake your shelves? Your living room? Your house? Then Josh's solution to the problem may be the answer you're looking for.

We've all had them. Home Theater Headaches! They're awful. We turn on our theater and something isn't working, then we spend more time to fix the problem than it would've taken us to watch the movie in the first place. Find out about Josh's recent run-in with his Laser Disc player.

Theatrical News

Luke stopped by the cinema this week and saw the two big movies that are opening this weekend. Find out what he thought about the oh-so realistic Navy Seals movie 'Act of Valor' and his thoughts on the new Paul Rudd R-rated comedy 'Wanderlust'.

In The Trailer Park E discusses some of the reboots that will be making their way to theaters shortly.

Special Features

This week's Weekend Roundtable we took a nit-picky look at our favorite films. Even though we love these films, there are one or two things about them that really, truly bug us. Find out what they are.

That's it for this week!

We really hope you stop on by this Sunday for our Live-Blog of the Oscars. We're going to be starting the blog at 7 PM Eastern so make sure you make the proper time adjustments for your respective time zone (6 PM Central, 5 PM Mountain, and 4 PM Pacific). We'll start with the pre-show and talk as the stars arrive on the red carpet, then we'll go into the wee hours of the morning until we're all delirious from our overdose of Billy Crystal. What do you say? Sounds like a great time eh? If that doesn't make you want to join us then FREE Blu-rays should. Come. Win something. Stay awhile. We hope to see you all there!

We here at High-Def Digest and The Bonus View hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day this week, and if you didn't have a special person to share it with, we hope you spent your time watching as many awesome action movies as possible.

Even though love was in the air this week The Bonus View didn't slow down when it came to covering just about everything you'd like to know about the world of theatrical releases, Blu-rays, and yes, even video games. Did you miss out on a few articles this week? Well here's your chance to look back through what was posted and find those tidbits you may have passed over.

Blu-ray News

This week Josh covered the weekly Blu-ray releases with his Blu-ray Highlights post, while Tom let us in on the info about the new 'War of Arrows' collector's steelbook case in his Full Metal Jackets column.

If you're looking to revisit a title that's been sitting on your shelf for a while, check out Off the Shelf where Aaron took another look at 'Deep Blue Sea' and remembered just how silly it is.

Theatrical News

Luke covered two of the three big releases for this week. 'Ghost Rider 2' wasn't screened for critics, I wonder why. However, you can catch up with Luke's reviews of the new rom-com 'This Means War,' and the new Hiromasa Yonebayashi film 'The Secret World of Arrietty,' which just so happens to be written by the famous Hayao Miyazaki.

Along with movie reviews, Luke also took a look at the state of movies and Hollywood in his article entitled Diagnosing and Treating Hollywood’s Disease. Check it out. It's a great read.

TV Recaps

It was a big week in television, mainly because the popular AMC zombie show, 'The Walking Dead' finally ended its hiatus and started up with all-new episodes. Aaron recapped the returning episode. Find out if you agree with the lethargic feeling Aaron has about the series.

Along with the new episode of 'The Walking Dead' Aaron also continued with his Character Guide column which spells out the characters who are left on the show and their chances of surviving.

We also covered a variety of other shows including, 'The River,' 'Grimm,' 'Fringe,' and 'Alcatraz.'

Special Features

Josh discussed a very sensitive issue this week. Apparently George Lucas is now saying that Han never shot first in the first place. Yet another insult to his already beleaguered fanbase.

The Weekend Roundtable involved us talking about the worst titles ever given to movies. What are some of yours? Let us know.

This week in the Mid-Week Poll we asked you who will win the Best Director at the Oscars and who you think should win.

That's it for this week. Continue to tune into The Bonus View for insight, intrigue and a healthy stream of contests. Have a great weekend everyone.

Bonus View Digest - January 20, 2012

We've had another very eventful week at The Bonus View. We had dozens of readers show up for our second annual Golden Globes Live-Blog, which was a great success. There were a ton of contests, and people walked away with brand new Blu-rays to add to their collections just for joining in on the chat! If you didn't get in on this Live-Blog we'll be doing another one when the Oscars roll around, so stay tuned! We'll have just as many contests and we hope to see just as many of you there with us.

This week was shortened by the holiday weekend, so instead of making our way through our normal format of specific categories, I'd instead like to direct your attention to a few of my favorite posts this week.

This week was full of mid-season TV premieres, so we've got a few series premiere recaps for you to enjoy. Want to know if 'Alcatraz' or 'The Finder' are worth your time investment, then check out their respective premiere recaps from Aaron and Josh.

This week's most commented on post was the Weekend Roundtable where we all took turns discussing our worst theatrical experiences. Whether it is talkers, texters, or annoying teenagers, everyone weighed in on what was their worst experience at the cinema. Need a place to vent about a terrible movie-going experience; this is the place for you. Join in on the comment section and share it with us, believe me, it helps.

The Sundance Film Festival swings into full gear this week and Aaron and Luke will be there taking it all in. To kick off Aaron's Sundance coverage he posted a detailed listing of all the films he plans on seeing. Can he actually see the 30-plus films he's planning on before burning out? Follow along with the coverage to find out.

This week we actually had a book review from DVDTalk reviewer Adam Tyner. Check out his review of 'The Hammer Vault.'

E continued updating us on his HTPC progress with Part 3 of revamping his home theater system.

That's what happened this week on The Bonus View. We want to thank you again for making our Golden Globes Live-Blog a huge success. Have a great weekend everyone!

I know you sit around waiting anxiously for the next edition of the Bonus View Digest. Well, here we are again, but this time we've got a mega-special announcement. Oh and there's more! We'll be having TONS of giveaways!

Last year we had tons of fun during our live-blogging events. The Oscars were a blast and we gave away a bunch of free Blu-rays to other chatters. This year the live-blogging Golden Globes event will be even bigger. We're giving away 20, count them 20, Blu-rays to all of you who will be joining in on the chat with us. Not only will you be able to chat with us live and get showered with our unfiltered wit, but we're also showering you with prizes galore. How could your Sunday night get any better?

So, we hope you'll join us for our live-blog on Sunday. Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you all there. Josh and Aaron will be there running things and hoping to make the chat go as smoothly as possible. It should be a lot of fun. Don't miss it, or you'll miss your chance at scoring some free movies along with missing out on some great camaraderie between writers, readers, and movie buffs.

Besides the impending live-blogging event – which everyone is coming to, right? – we had a lot of fun at The Bonus View this week. Check out some of the highlights below.

Blu-ray News

Josh covered the weekly look at the new Blu-rays hitting store shelves this week. This was the week to pick up hot films like 'Moneyball,' and 'Killer Elite.' Also, 'Boardwalk Empire' hit Blu-ray this week, which should have HBO fans in a buying frenzy.

With Uncovered, Aaron discussed some of the newly released artwork for upcoming titles like 'Immortals,' 'J. Edgar,' and the highly anticipated 'Bond 50' anthology. Aaron also returned to his popular feature Off The Shelf where he revisits movies that have been sitting on his shelf for a while. This time he rewatched the stop-motion favorite 'Coraline' and observed 20 random things about it.

Theatrical News

There was no shortage of theatrical news this week, starting off with a trio of reviews from Luke Hickman. He reviewed 'Joyful Noise,' 'Contraband,' and the unsettling drama 'We Need to Talk About Kevin.'

Luke also covered 2011's Biggest Box Office Bombs. E discussed the very unfunny, and might I add depressing trailer for 'The Three Stooges' in this week's Trailer Park.

This week's Mid-Week Poll also had to do with going out to the cinema. We asked you which critically acclaimed movie of 2011 was your favorite film. The conversation has grown to one of the most popular threads on the site. Weigh in with your opinion now.

Home Theater News

Watch out for those supposed 3000 hour rated projector bulbs. In the post 507 Hours Josh found out the hard way this week that these bulbs may not last as long as they're supposed to.

If you don't feel like hitting the theater this weekend and would rather check out what you can stream into your home check out our weekly Netflix Stream and VUDU posts. If you're looking for a recommendation, Josh recommends an erotic thriller starring Rob Lowe (I know, sounds awesome right?) in his VUDU Diaries post called 'Bad Influence.'

That's it for this week. Be sure to join us this Sunday at 8:00pm EST/5:00pm PST for our live-blogging coverage of The Golden Globes. Remember, we're giving away at least 20 Blu-rays during the telecast so you're odds are very good when it comes to winning. So join us for a night of fun, laughs, and contests. We hope to see you there! And by there, I mean right here!

This week's Bonus View Digest is being typed in a drug-induced haze. No, I wasn't up all night partying – not those kinds of drugs. Instead I, Aaron Peck, was up all night with my first cold of the New Year. Great way to start it off huh? Well, at least when I was up at 4:00 am in the morning I had nothing else to do but read all the great stuff that even I miss sometimes on our blog.

As I sniffed, coughed, and sneezed through the night – all the while cursing the cold drugs for not working like they promised they would – I was able to catch up on all of this week's great articles that were posted on the blog. Check out what you may have missed.

Theatrical News

E introduced us to a couple new trailers in this week's Trailer Park. 'A Thousand Words' appears to be Eddie Murphy's next cinematic disaster, while the rom-com 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' has E a bit apprehensive of what the final outcome will be.

In the Weekend Movies section Luke dissects the films that are in theaters, but it being January there aren't a lot of great options out there.

Posterizing got the year end treatment. Aaron revealed his top 15 favorite movie posters of 2011.

Home Theater News

E continues to update us on his home theater overhaul with Part 2 of his home theater PC build.

In case you were wondering on what movies to catch on streaming services, check out our posts for the Netflix Stream and VUDU where you can find all the information you need about new shows and old ones that may be leaving soon.

Blu-ray News

This week, as a New Year's celebration we gave away a brand new copy of 'Kung Fu Panda 2.' Check out the results page to see who won, and continue to check the blog for contests. We're having them all the time.

Josh unboxed his Japanese 'Aladdin' Laser Disc set. Check it out if you want to see the kinds of memorabilia that is included in these rare sets. Josh unboxes different releases from time to time so keep a look out for them.

Special Features

In a special post this week Luke revealed how film critic awards happen by using the Utah Film Critics Association as an example. The Mid-Week Poll discussed our favorite 2011 blockbusters. Finally, with the Weekend Roundtable we all made our own New Year's wishes.

Thanks for making the first week of the New Year a great one. Be sure to stay tuned though, because on the 15th of January we're planning on doing a Live-Blog for the Golden Globes! You won't want to miss it.
