The Charlton Heston classic is one of the best releases of the year and there's an exclusive version available only at Best Buy.

Warner Brothers is releasing 'Ben-Hur' this week, and Best Buy has an exclusive version that also includes a figurine.

Directed by William Wyler, the winner of 11 Oscars (including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture) tells the tale of a Jewish prince (Charlton Heston) who is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend and not only regains his freedom, but also comes back for revenge.

The Blu-ray release contains two BD-50 Blu-ray discs (or five DVDs in the standard-definition version shown at the end of this article) and loads of special features including the brand new Charlton Heston & Ben-Hur A Personal Journey -- a feature length documentary chronicling the life of the actor while making the film. The feature is composed of behind-the-scenes footage, rare Heston home movies, and much more.

Other bonuses include: Ben-Hur, A Journey Through Pictures: An audiovisual re-creation assembled using stills, storyboards, sketches, music, dialogue and other archive materials; Ben Hur: The 1925 Silent Film; 2005 Documentary, Ben-Hur: The Epic That Changed Cinema; 1994 Documentary, Ben-Hur: The Making of an Epic; Original Screen Tests; Vintage Newsreel Gallery; Highlights from the 4/4/60 Academy Awards Ceremony; and a Theatrical Trailer Gallery.

Inside the package are two collectible books, with the first being "Charlton Heston: The Ben-Hur Diaries" -- an in-depth look at the actor's experiences during filmmaking with personal photos and some of Charlton Heston's sketches. A second book is packed with rare photographs, production artwork, and reproductions from the original theatrical press book.

Pricing on the Best Buy edition is $59.99.

Best Buy Offering Blu-ray Discounts with DVD Trades

Tags: Best Buy, High-Def Retailing (all tags)

You can get five bucks off a new Blu-ray by trading in an old DVD.

If you have a significant DVD collection sitting around and you're not sure what to do with it, Best Buy has an option for you - turn it into a Blu-ray collection.

Trading in a retail DVD with the case - no burned DVDs obviously - will get you a $5 coupon to be used on the purchase of a Blu-ray. You're limited to five coupons per visit and the promotion seems to be limited to a maximum discount of $5 per disc, but it's a step up over having DVDs collecting dust.

The coupon is valid on 135 different Blu-ray discs, mainly consisting of older and catalog titles. There's some good stuff on the list though, including 'Inglourious Basterds,' 'Taxi Driver,' and 'Toy Story 3.'

Best Buy Pulls 'Burlesque' Blu-ray Due to Pack-In Corset

Wed Mar 02, 2011 at 01:30 PM ET
Tags: Best Buy, Censorship (all tags)

The corset is in the ads for the Blu-ray, but you won't find it in stores.

We have a High-Def Digest reader named Perry to thank for this tip. In his email to us he writes, " I just went to pick up my copy of 'Burlesque' on Blu-ray with the free corset and I was told they were pulled off the shelf this morning with top priority."

After doing a bit of checking up, it turns out this is the case at more than just one Best Buy. Though the ad for 'Burlesque' clearly indicates a pack-in corset for those that purchase the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, stores aren't selling them.

In fact, some stores have gone as far as pulling the discs completely off the shelves. Our tipster Perry reported that he was only given the Blu-ray after putting in an order on BestBuy.com. At that point, they removed the corset and then handed over the Blu-ray.

Currently, the disc's page on Best Buy's website doesn't show anything about the Corset, which it did previous to today.

Best Buy has not confirmed the reason for the pull, but an employee who chooses to remain anonymous has told us that the company received complaints from a parent's group and caved to the pressure.

Amazon, Best Buy, and Coinstar Are Potential Blockbuster Buyers

The final sale of the company is expected by April.

It's amazing how quickly things turned around for Blockbuster. They were a giant in the rental industry, and they even became a brand name that describes a product. Like Band-Aid and Jell-O, Blockbuster became the one notable name in its business.

The company is up for sale with a minimum offer of $290 million, or $265 without studio support. Blockbuster submitted a list of potential buyers during its bankruptcy filings. That list includes expected names like Amazon, Best Buy, and RedBox owner Coinstar.

It also includes NCR, the folks behind Blockbuster Express, Sonic Solutions, and even Hollywood Video founder Mark Wattles.
