Though the market launch of the first Blu-ray players and discs does not officially begin until next Tuesday, online high-def DVD fans are already buzzing with reports of street date violations at major retailers nationwide.

Due to hit stores on June 25, Samsung's $999 BD-P1000 Blu-ray player began shipping earlier this week to such chains as Best Buy and Circuit City, the electronics manufacturer announced late yesterday via an official press release.

But early adopters are already reporting early street date leaks of the Samsung player. Numerous forum posts have started to appear on the popular AVS Message forum, detailing early sales at such major retailers as Best Buy.

"On a fluke thing, tonight I stopped by my Best Buy in Arkansas to pick up an HD DVD movie to watch. Low and behold a sight I didn't expect to see -- two Samsung Blu-ray players!" said one gleeful member of the AVS Forum in a post late yesterday. "One of the employees said that they should have in some movies this week."

The initial wave of Blu-ray disc titles from format backer Sony is not yet due for release until this coming Tuesday, June 20. For a complete listing of upcoming Blu-ray releases, see our complete Blu-ray Release Schedule.
