Things are about to get very interesting for the folks at Netflix as they face their first real competitor.

If you want to stream movies online, there's really only one game in town, and it's Netflix. Sure, you can go other places, but when it comes to cost, selection, and the ability to play videos from a huge variety of devices, Netflix stands as a clear winner.

But there's a new challenger on the horizon – the online megastore Amazon. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is going to be launching its own subscription based streaming service in the very near future.

The plan is to essentially go where Netflix has gone before. Amazon hopes to get their service onto televisions sets, Blu-ray players, videogame consoles and mobile devices, as well as PCs.

Interestingly enough, the Netflix movie servers are currently leased from none other than Amazon. That could raise some interesting questions once the service is finally announced officially.
